Preparation

Wash your car with soap and water. Rinse well and dry. It is crucial that the vehicle be free of any dirt, oil, grease, wax, tar or any other impurities.

Cover the surfaces adjacent to your bumper. Put three strips of masking tape on the edges of nearby surfaces.

Step One

Drill a hole of 3 mm in diameter at each end of the crack to reduce the tension, then use a sander with a 24-grit grinding disc to prepare the surface for the glue. Use a 180-grit dry sanding paper to level the edges and then wipe the whole area clean.

Put a piece of masking tape inside the bumper to retain the glue. On a clean non-fibrous mixing board, extract the proper quantity of plastic parts adhesive. Mix until the color is uniform. Apply one coat and let dry for 60 minutes.

Step Two

Level the surface with an 80-grit dry sanding paper, then wipe the surface with a clean cloth.

Mix the proper amount of polyester finishing putty and hardener on a clean non-fibrous mixing board. Spread evenly and firmly, using a spreader, to maximize adhesion. Let dry for 15 to 30 minutes.

Step Three

Use a 180-grit dry sanding paper to level the surface. Wipe well.

At a distance of 15 cm, use a smooth sweeping motion to apply three coats of surface primer. Let dry 15 minutes between each coat. Let the surface primer dry for 8 hours before sanding.

Step Four

Use a flexible sanding block with a 400-grit dry sanding paper on the surface to paint. Make sure the edges are well sanded. Mask the vehicle before applying any paint. Clean the area with a clean and humid cloth.

At a distance of 10 cm and with a smooth sweeping motion, apply several coats of paint to cover the area. Each coat must dry for 15 minutes. Wait 15 minutes before applying the clear coat.

At a distance of 10 cm, apply two wet coats of clear coat at an interval of 15 minutes. Wait 15 minutes before applying the blending solvent. Apply one coat of blending solvent on the edges. It will remove the over spray.

Completing DIY projects not only can save you money, but also boost your self-esteem. Look back on your accomplishments with pride and never give up!
