(ThyBlackMan.com) I have no other choice but to blame this nation’s educational system for producing so many individuals who are historically illiterate. The “historically illiterate” are people who have such a minuscule understanding of history that everything they say should be viewed suspectly. The latest individual to open his mouth and prove that he belongs in this rank is Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
I guess that a significant political challenge such as the one that Beto O’Rourke is issuing to Senator Cruz causes panic in political figures who have convinced themselves that they were appointed to a lifetime position instead of being elected.
In a desperate attempt to make himself appear credible, Cruz, like many before him, has unwisely chosen to seize the iconic words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Senator Cruz’s attempt at co-opting Dr. King’s legacy is an all too familiar tactic by politicians seeking to confuse a gullible public who know little about him.
It does not take much to discern that Ted Cruz’s political perspectives and moral compulsions consistently conflict with Dr. King’s legacy. Unfortunately for the nation, such inconsistencies have had no impact on the embattled Senator’s attempt to seize King’s legacy. Political figures such as Cruz foolishly believe that if they evoke the spirit of Dr. King that their deplorable record regarding racial matters magically disappears. I am sure that Senator Cruz realizes that his half-hearted attempt to attach himself to Dr. King’s legacy has failed.
The ridiculousness of Cruz’s hijinks makes wonder what universe is he living in. Unfortunately for us all, the zany universe that Cruz resides in is overcrowded with like-minded individuals. Experience has taught me that far too many Americans reside in a bizarre world where ignorance reigns and lies are akin to an Excalibur used to slay the righteous who are slaves to the truth. Winning, regardless of the devious methods used to secure the victory, is all that matters to such people; trust me when I say that such people are throughout the political spectrum.
Half-truths have little impact on those seeking solutions to real world problems such as poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, institutional racism, and racial bigotry. Unfortunately for those mentioned above, they are surrounded by a legion of political rivals whose entire worldview is based on half-truths and political inaccuracies. It is this populace that serves as pawns in a political game that has real-world consequences for the poor, downtrodden, and disenfranchised. The very people that the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., so diligently attempted to aid via original forms of protest that if he were alive today would include kneeling during the playing of the national anthem to draw attention to societal ills until society paid attention.
Senator Cruz should know better. Unfortunately, his incorrect recitation of American history proves that he doesn’t.
