(ThyBlackMan.com) What does it require for a person to want to become a better person? Why is it we do not consciously make that choice more often? To the casual observer, that answer is easily located in the tendency for us as humans to constantly train our focus on everything and everyone else but the man or woman in the mirror. To wit: we spend more time on the next person than on making ourselves a better person.
It is time we switch that dynamic and determine how we may achieve becoming a better person.
Some will ask, “What’s wrong with the person I am now?”
Each of us is a project. We can all get better; we can all improve the ‘who’ and ‘what’ and ‘where’ of our journey. It does not require of us to move a mountain to accomplish this feat, it only mandates a desire and a willingness to do the work – to spend less time trying to figure the next person out and more time doing what’s needful for our personal best.
Mostly, the desire to become better is the recognition that we are evolving beings.
If you want to get better, here are three components to The Better Person Project.
Number One:
Movement
The first component of The Better Person Project is movement. I often hear people say, “I must get my mind right before I do anything”! Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is it works in reverse: before you get you’re ‘mind right’ you must get your body to moving. The body is to the mind what the axle is to the automobile – it steers your mind in the direction it needs to go.
To get the car started, just get up and move! Don’t wait for some Divine angelic parting of the skies to announce it’s time for you to walk into your destiny, just get up and move. There is no Calvary coming to save you – the choice is yours to reinvent yourself and it begins with movement.
Begin with a commitment to ten minutes of exercise or some form of physical activity per day. Fire up your metabolic energy boosters with ten minutes of power-walking, cycling, swimming or any activity which keeps your heart rate constantly elevated. Do not stop until you sweat!
Number Two:
Lifestyle Change
Movement is most definitely a lifestyle change, but there’s more to lifestyle change than movement. Exercising ten minutes a day is the number one pillar of The Better Person Project, but without making a substantive change in habit, physical activity will eventually die off. Change something in your lifestyle.
One of the best changes you can make for your lifestyle is to eliminate sugar. Sugar is the enemy of the healthy lifestyle! Eliminating sugar from your diet while initiating a daily regimen of physical activity will not only make you look better, it will also make you feel better on so many different levels. Eliminating sugar is a good start, but the key is to start somewhere and make a change.
Number Three:
Clear Thinking
The final component to The Better Person Project is positive or ‘clear’ thinking. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “What was I thinking?” The truth is much of our thinking is a result of conditioned patterns of seeing the world and ourselves in it. Who says the way we think now is the ‘right’ or positive way of thinking? If how you are thinking is not producing the results you want to see, then maybe it’s time to think differently.
Clear thinking is positive thinking; it’s resisting what your conscious mind shows you on a minute-by-minute basis from the time you get out of bed to the time you go to bed.
Clear thinking is transformative thinking as opposed to transactional thinking – which is the mundane and uninspired form that dominates our physical environment. The opposite of clear thinking is wrong thinking, such as seeing ourselves as victim rather victor. It’s time to change our thinking and begin to think clearly and positively.
Move, make a change and think clearly and you’re on your way to becoming a better person!
