(ThyBlackMan.com) This year, Lenovo unveiled Motorola Moto G4 successor Moto G5 and surprised fans. The two variants of the new phone feature smaller display size than their predecessors. The company has also introduced a fingerprint sensor in the G series with the arrival of this year’s phones.
The biometric authentication sensor was only available in the last year’s G4 Plus model. The unexpected changes, both good and bad, give an idea of where Motorola is taking G Series with its smartphones.
Motorola Is More Premium Focused Now
Both the Motorola Moto G4 and G4 Plus were criticised by fans due to the use of cheap casing material. The phones don’t look premium and they do not appear to be classy. On top of that, the backside of the G4 also doesn’t come very comfortable in hand, but with the G5 launch, Motorola has changed the things and the metal body and reduced size come as a relief for premium phone lovers who prefer comfort over the screen size.
Less Focus on Camera Improvements
Motorola has not changed anything in terms of camera specifications. There’s no significant difference between the cameras of G4 and G5, but if you look at their superior versions, it seems that the company is no more concerned about the camera it delivers with the devices.
The G4 Plus features a 16MP front camera, but the G5 Plus brings lower megapixel count and the phone comes with a 12MP camera. However, the pictures taken by the new phones appear to be more enhanced, but you will not see anything significant if compared with the phones available in the same range.
What’s New?
The Moto G5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset and supports up to 4GB of RAM. The device is available in 32GB internal storage capacity version and sports a 2800mAh battery. If you compare the device with Motorola Moto G4, the latter runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor. The phone supports 2GB RAM and is available with 16GB/32GB internal storage capacity versions. The G4 is powered by 3000mAh battery, which is obviously more powerful than the G5. This is undoubtedly a weird choice by Motorola to give a new phone less powered battery than its predecessor.
What’s Good?
The design of Motorola Moto G5 comes in a premium, rich-looking design that makes it stand out. The phone looks pricier due to the build quality. Another change by the company is the phone’s ability to accommodate a removable battery.
The Motorola Moto G4 accommodates a non-removable battery, which is quite annoying for many users. The G5 brings the change by introducing a removable battery. The fast charging capability is almost the same. On G5, you can get around 4 hours of standby time with a 15-minute charge. Thanks to the fast charging. It was being expected that Motorola will bring Type-C with the new phone, but it still relies on the microUSB charger.
There’s no significant difference between the prices of the two phones. And now when the Moto G4 is almost one year old, there are many deals available on several websites. If you are thinking of buying any of the two, buying a premium-looking phone with a metal build, more efficient charging tech, fingerprint sensor appears to be a smart choice.
If we compare both the smartphones, it seems that the G Series is surely being improved with each year. However, Motorola is adopting new technology, it is visible that the company is still refraining from using some components which are already being used by many smartphone manufacturers. Recently, the company introduced Nougat update on G4 which was promised last year. Along with its price tag, the company has given several reasons to buy Motorola Moto G4 and G5, now the company needs to ensure how rapidly it brings new technology to the G Series realm.

Proud of a Motorola Moto G4. At this time I see no reason to upgrade.
