(ThyBlackMan.com) It’s something about a noose wrapped around the neck of an African-American that excites and exhilarates a vast number of white Americans. Albeit, hangings are still legal in two states: Washington and New Hampshire; the last public lynching was executed on August 14, 1936, in Owensboro, Kentucky.
A young African-American male named Rainey Bethea pled guilty to raping a white woman named Lischia Edwards. An audience of 20,000 spectators surrounded the nearby gallows to witness Mr. Bethea breathlessly dangling to his death. Some onlookers heckled; others cheered; and many others urged castration.
Ironically, despite African-Americans being the minority, out of the 4725 recorded public hangings, 3445 of them were African Americans. And, it is because of this lopsided statistic that nooses and nig-gros have become synonymous and interchangeable. In recent news, a noose found its way into the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History and Culture as well as The Hirshhorn Museum. At the American University in Washington students found a noose wrapped tightly around the body of a banana. Yes. A banana. I’m not monkeying around.
The list continues to grow. Another noose was found in close proximity to the University of Maryland. And, yet, another one at a middle school in Crofton, Maryland. An African- American college student was slain, stabbed to death, by a white man motivated by racism.
In response to the President’s travel ban, American Muslims are under attack. Two white men were murdered as they heroically protected a garbed up Islamic woman from an American assassin. Thousands of racially insensitive complaints have been reported to law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
The President’s attorney general, Mr. Jeff Sessions, wants district attorneys across the country to throw the book at brothers. His desire is to eternally enslave them upon modern day plantations. This carefully calculative move will ultimately disrupt and disenfranchise millions of families, mostly minorities. Hopefully, catapulting the private prison industry to the top of the Forbes list.
There has been a spike in gun sales, knife purchases, and protective armor. Citizens are antsy and paranoid, thinking a violent revolution is on the horizon. Less volatile observers are seeking churches and mosques. They want to hear from men and women of the cloth. Protest groups are organizing rallies and marches and sit-ins.
Personally, I attribute many of these blatant acts of racism to the vitriolic rhetoric spewed by our Commander in Chief. He’s the voice of the inarticulate. He says what many people think. He doesn’t appear to have the intelligence or insight needed to unite the nation; therefore, he uses his ignorance to motivate the unlearned. And, to quote Malcolm X: there is nothing more dangerous than ignorance in motion.
