(ThyBlackMan.com) After discontinuing Nintendo NES Classic, the Japanese company is reportedly aiming to release Nintendo SNES Classic Edition this year. Last week we reported that Nintendo will no longer bring its NES Classic in the market. Following the reports, it is being said that the main reason behind cancelling production is the arrival of SNES mini.
However, Nintendo has not released any official statement about the SNES Classic Edition release date, Eurogamer reports that the console will arrive during Christmas holiday season. The report further claims that Nintendo has already started working on the console’s production.
If the reports are something to go by, the release of Nintendo SNES Classic Edition would be a clever move by the company. Last year in November, Nintendo released the mini NES and it eventually became a big hit. After huge demand for the console, Nintendo, last week decided to discontinue production. Even today, there are people who need NES Classic but since the decision has already been taken, only a few stores have the console units in stock.
When the company released its statement claiming that the console was intended to exist in the market for a short period, it didn’t give any clue to the fans why the company is discontinuing the product. Now when the talks about SNES Classic Edition are at peak, it seems that Nintendo’s bold move was there for an obvious reason.
The shortage of stock was one of the biggest problem for customers. So now when Nintendo is apparently gearing up for a new product launch, we hope that SNES Classic Edition console units will be available in sufficient quantity to avoid the shortage.
Games We Expect
Keeping the retro gaming in mind, SNES mini will probably bring a strong lineup of games to the customers. There are couple of third party games fans would love playing on SNES Classic, but if Nintendo manages to bring the games on its upcoming console, there are many games we would like to play.
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System has given us so much in the past. Now when a compact-size console is expected to arrive, we wish to see Contra II: The Alien Wars and Contra III: The Alien Wars to relive those memories. Bringing Aladdin, NBA Jam, Street and Fighter II would be a great treat.
From the Super Mario franchise, the titles like Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and Super Mario Kart will be among the highly anticipated ones. Other than these games, Final Fantasy VI, Mortal Kombat II and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja are also must have SNES games.
From Zelda franchise, who wouldn’t want to play The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the upcoming console? And in addition to this, SimCity, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Donkey Kong Country, Tetris have also made their way to our wishlist for the Nintendo SNES Classic Edition games.
We probably will have to wait for a couple of days or weeks to hear the official announcement. And there are chances that Nintendo will dismantle the claims made for SNES Classic release. But if the company brings the console, it would be a mega hit.
As far as the Nintendo SNES Classic Edition price is concerned, If Nintendo changes its strategy and introduces the console ensuring sufficient supply, the company will probably bring the console at a higher price than the NES Classic.
Just like the NES Classic Edition, SNES Classic Edition may also come in the same design as its predecessor. The last year’s console was bundled with classic games and also featured an HDMI port for easy connectivity with TV sets. So, the same can be expected for the upcoming console as well. As the details about the Nintendo SNES Classic Edition are scarce, it is still not possible to say what attractions Nintendo would bring with the new console.
