(ThyBlackMan.com) It’s quite okay to respect an individual’s academic intelligence. I will never argue with Dr. Ben Carson’s accomplishments as a physician. He did not lose my respect by becoming a Republican. It is very important that we understand political party ought not be a definition of character where black people are concerned. It seems to be hard to understand why a black person would become a Republican, however we could ask why would any black person join either party given the history of both. The problem Ben Carson seems to have is a question of dignity where being black is concerned. Yes, that is a very hard statement, but that is the only conclusion one can come to when one of “our own” speaks in a manner that whitewashes the plight of the enslaved in this country.
There have been some that wonder if Dr. Carson was fully aware of what he’s been saying. Does he truly understand the implication of associating slavery with the immigration discussion? It is much easier to breathe as a black person when the answer is no. However, that’s not the truth and we know it. If we back up and pay attention 
to Dr. Carson prior to his appointment, we won’t be surprised by what he’s saying at all. Yes, we are going to have to let our shock go…this man backed the current President and that cannot be ignored.
If there are those of us that would criticize Former President Barak Obama for not doing enough for our people…regardless of the adversity he faces, then those same people must acknowledge that Dr. Carson completely sold out. We can’t pick and choose what we want to see and acknowledge. Granted many of our people were appalled when the news of Dr. Carson’s words broke, but some toned their wrath down when he spoke again to explain his use of the term immigrant.
His justification was not good enough. Per Webster dictionary an immigrant “is a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence.” We did not COME to this country we were forced into this country against our free will IN CHAINS. Dr. Carson is an intelligent man and he knows this. The anger for many is his blatant loss of dignity as a black man. This is not about party affiliation this is about knowing and understanding the plight of your people in this country and never lying about that plight. Dr. Carson is a member of a very questionable administration, but he did not have to speak an untruth that he is the descendant of. He may be from Michigan but his parents are from rural Georgia and lived in Tennessee. He knows the we were not immigrants. He has decided he would not only partake of this establishment, but also lie on his own face for it.
It would be very wise for Dr. Carson to understand that he is indeed a pawn in an administration that doesn’t care about him nor those that look like him. He must understand if he ever takes a position that is in opposition to the current sitting president that man will go after him with fury. He must understand when they throw him out…all that he will have left is the descendants of the enslaved. Everyone is expendable in politics, and all must make an unholy sacrifice of some sort for us to have representation however one’s dignity, and the truth of who you are should never be for sale.
I can honestly say I did not agree with every stance and decision the former president made. There were times when he had to behave and decide in line with the establishment he represented. However, regardless of who we may have disagreed he knew what he was in the eyes of the public. Dr. Ben Carson has clearly lost sight of that reality, and that is the saddest truth of all. Intelligence does not define; nor can it sustain our character and dignity. Dr. Carson is a clear example of that truth…he must live with what he has sold.
