(ThyBlackMan.com) I don’t see too many entertainers today that I would consider an icon. It seems that too many of them are doing too much. We have artists these days that can’t even speak let alone sing or rap. Just seems like the talent, and creativity, in today’s artist is lacking. With that being said the few out there that are big names often receive the hate because it seems every time we look up we see the same folk. Let’s look at this. Janet Jackson is an iconic entertainer!
No album was the same; Janet Jackson gave us so many different looks and she sung about more than just sex or love. A Janet Jackson concert was WORTH spending money to see because the sister was definitely going to put on a show that didn’t disappoint. Her sound, presentation, chorography and videos were always on point! She ventured of into acting and did ok, but she was definitely a star in her own right.
One could say the same for Madonna who, unlike Janet Jackson, has to start her career from scratch. Madonna is still making music, and she never failed to push the envelope regarding what is sexy. The Guinness Book of World Records has her as the bestselling female artist of all time.
Madonna was a rebel with a cause, and she didn’t let public opinion dictate her music or presentation. Like Janet Jackson she also ventured into acting. Both women are successful in music and business. Even at their age they could pack out large venues in no time.
There is always going to be a question of comparison to them when we look at today’s artist. Is Beyoncé as iconic of an entertainer as Janet Jackson? Does Rihanna push the envelope to the degree of Madonna? Beyoncé is clearly an icon whether folks like her or not, but some might think she has surpassed her predecessors. What can be said is in Janet Jackson, and Madonna’s prime they were NOT alone.
So maybe the up and coming artist of today should ask themselves what does it mean to be iconic, and how does one craft a career that stands the test of time. So many artists today seem flakey, and fly by night. Maybe this industry makes it nearly impossible to follow the iconic longevity of a Janet Jackson or Madonna. That has yet to be seen as only time will tell.

Of course Janet and Madonna paved the way. They were and still are original. Sure they were inspired by other artists but they created something new and re-invented themselves. Beyoncé doesn’t sound too smart. There’s a reason she doesn’t do interviews…she has nothing of substance to talk about and all her speeches are written for he but her pr team. Beyoncé is not in the same category as Madonna or even Janet because Madonna is more than just an entertainer. Beyoncé could be easily substituted for the 1000s of other girls out there that sing and dance but people like Janet, Madonna, and Whitney Houston are one of a kind.
All hail the real QUEENS Madonna and Janet. Beyoncé will never be on their level.
Beyoncé an icon??? Too funny. Copying others doesn’t make you an icon, it makes your an imitator and Beyoncé is just imitating the great Ms. Ross and Josephine Baker along with Madonna and Ms. Jackson. I get so annoyed when people call her queen, its just ridiculous. In order to be a queen you have to be the best and she’s not. She doesn’t sing better than Whitney, she doesn’t dance better than Janet, and she’s not a better artist than Madonna. Madonna holds the record for the highest grossing tour by a solo artist and has sold more albums than any other women in history. Beyoncé and her pesky beehive need to buzz off asap.
Beyoncé is NOT an icon. She hasn’t done anything to earn that honor. Madonna and Janet are icons because they paved the way and broke down barriers and they actually write and produce music. Beyoncé needs to take her fake ass hair and bleached skin back to elementary school because she speaks like she’s in 5th grade.
Please don’t compare beYAWNce to queen Madonna or Janet Jackson. Beyoncé steals looks and concepts from other artists without giving them proper credit. Take away Beyoncés army of creative directors, hair/makeup people, and all writers and producers she hires to work on her albums and you are left with nothing. Beyoncé is just a singer…and not a great one. She will never be able to sing like the great Whitney Houston or Aretha franklin. it’s A LOT of smoke and mirrors with Beyoncé. Janet and Madonna are the real deal. Beyoncé doesn’t care about women’s rights or human rights. Where was she during the women’s march in Washington??? She doesn’t care about black lives. She only jumped on the black lives matter bandwagon when it’s was cool and safe to do so and to promote her album. She only cares about fame and money. As an African American I refuse to support someone like her. If she’s so proud to be black why does she lighten her skin? She so fake and overrated. We shouldn celebrate the great artists that are still with us like Aretha, Madonna, Patti, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, Janet Jackson
Madonna and Janet are pioneers and trailblazers. They are real ARTISTS and real art is timeless. Beyonce is not an artists. She has done nothing extraordinary or original. She just copies Madonna, Janet, Diana Ross, Whitney and Mariah. Beyonce is not icon. In 100 years no one will remember her.
Wow!! Please send this “Staff Writer” to university. A few courses in writing will help you!!!
Definitely, Beyonce copied everything from Janet and Madonna. She copied performing skills from Janet while prostitution from Madonna.
Prostitution from Madonna woman get real Janet used sex to sell her albums as well. Madonna defined how a live performance was done she changed the way the game was played and everyone including Janet followed. Don’t like Madonna ur loss but the facts are the facts Madonna is part of the holy Trinity of music she is beyond being a icon the bitch is like Elvis a legend.
