(ThyBlackMan.com) Recently, former college football and pro running back Trent Richardson told ESPN’s E:60 that many of his own family and friends had secretly stolen $1.6 million within 10 months that happened without his knowledge.

He told them that they had used the $1.6 million on almost 20 accounts with Netflix and Hulu and booze aka liquir in a big bottle. These types of stories don’t surprise me because inner city athletes like Trent Richardson that don’t have any education and financial planning will always end up getting exploited by not only people from outside his community, but also those from inside his community from relatives to friends.

He had also stated several months ago that his family and friends 2016-trent-richardsonhad treated his money like it was theirs when they not only piled on their problems on him, but also he paid for a trip to Disneyland and they didn’t appreciate his generosity.

I remember seeing footage of Trent Richardson from his days as the best RB Escambia High School has had since the days of another great RB in Emmett Smith, who I was a fan of when I was a kid back in the day when he was playing for my favorite pro football team at that time, The Dallas Cowboys.

But I thought that Trent was being passed from grade to grade by his suburban female teachers because they have no incentive to care about that inner city athlete’s future because they only care about “winning the state championship“. They also didn’t teach him how to make very good choices and decisions when he’s off the field.

I used to watch this guy run hard and run through tough defenses while he was in The SEC and while he displayed excellence on the field, he was academically exploited in the classroom because I believe that he was also illiterate coming out high school and while he was in college.

He later made over $100 million for his unpaid athletic labor for an historically racist institution like The University Of Alabama in Tuscaloosa that doesn’t hire many black professors, doesn’t admit many black students, but will gladly bring in black people who can run a football or dribble a basketball.

The takeaway from this is that one of the worst mistakes that a black man in America can make is when he throws away educational opportunities in exchange for pursuing a mostly unattainable goal of “getting out of the hood by making it to the pros“.

The Conclusion – If Trent Richardson can learn the complex offensive schemes, then he should be able to learn the basics of financial literacy and the importance of being financially responsible so that he can make good decisions and hire people that look like him that will properly manages his finances.
