Lil Wayne – Gangsta Wrap.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Lil Wayne is back in court over some legal differences between Young Money and Cash Money. Rumor has it that shots had been fired. I guess Lil Wayne need to re-establish his Gangsta. I remember one day–about five years ago–my daughter walked in the house wearing a “Free lil Wayne” T-shirt. What did he do? I wondered.

On Monday, March 12, 2010, Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Carter surrendered himself to a NY jail. While publically saying that he wanted to be incarcerated with the general population, his lawyer, speaking on his behalf, hinted that the entertainer desired protective custody.

This act of transparent hypocrisy does not surprise this writer because most pseudo- gangsters request the protection of law enforcement officials because, in actuality, they believe in the system, while, for profit and notoriety, they rant, rave, and rap against it. Did not this pint-size gangster make a record called, “F**K Tha Police?”

In another record, “A Millie Song,” the rapper tells his teen-aged fan base that “he’d rather be pushing flowers than inside the pen sharing showers.” Ironically, during the rapper’s surrender, there was no stand-off with the police, like that of Larry Davis, the late brother from the Bronx, who shot six New York City police officers in 1986 at the tender age of 20, before being hauled off to jail. No, on the contrary, Lil’ Wayne walked in humbly and quietly, despite his lyrical prophecy and the musical insincerity of his own words.

If one was naïve enough on gangsterism, one would believe that the baby face lyrical and verbal tough guy may have emulated Baby Face Nelson who, according to Wikipedia, has the distinctive record of murdering more FBI agents than anyone in history. He also actually lived by the words that “he’d rather be pushing flowers than inside the pen sharing showers.” His life ended, in a shootout with law enforcement officers.

But Lil’ Wayne is not alone in living this hypocrisy. There is the rapper Shine, who, right before sentencing, requested the help of Minister Farrakhan and the non-violent Nation of Islam to help him ward off the punishing blow of the American Judicial System. There is the rapper, Tupac, who also sought help from the Nation of Islam–that is, right before sentencing. The list goes on and on.

However, the common denominator on quite a few of these cases is The Nation of Islam. Hopefully, Lil’ Wayne now has the time to study this organization and its founder, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. This man, whether you label him a criminal or not, actually lived out the words which he advocated. He was the one who suggested to Muhammad Ali that he should go to prison as opposed to going to war. But, it wasn’t only Ali, he allowed his own biological sons, Wallace and Emmanuel, to go to prison because they conscientiously objected to the war. And, he, too, spent four years in jail for fighting that in which he believed.

Hopefully, Lil’ Wayne will have learned from his experiences, and instead of rapping to mislead, he will say what he mean and mean what he say. If not, his hypocritical persona will continue to be exposed like so many others before him, his gangsta will be a wrap.
