(ThyBlackMan.com) By far one of the most controversial rappers of this century, Eminem has never fallen short of this title ever since he stepped into the limelight back in 1999 with his Slim Shady LP that established this artist as a force to be reckoned with. Throughout his career he has earned 15 Grammy awards, an Oscar award for the song lose yourself which was used as the soundtrack to the movie 8 Mile. This academy award was the first ever for a rap artist. Eminem in most of his lyrics has come out as a violent, blood thirsty character in his songs, taking in his alter ego, Slim Shady.
In most of his earlier songs he came out attacking his mother by blaming her for most of the childhood hardships that he was subjected too. This alter ego in those songs kills his mother and in other songs too attacks his wife. Despite all this negative lyrics that the put out, Eminem has amassed a following from fans that can rival that of The Beatles. Recruited by Dr. Dre, who was highly criticized for apparently hiring a “white rapper”. At one time, he was under investigation by The Secret Service for his lyrics in the song We As Americans where he claims that he’d rather see the president dead.
Despite all the negative publicity that has riddled Eminem’s life, many have been behind him. His album, Marshall Mathers LP, sold over 1.76 million record in its first week of release. This shows someone who is widely adored despite all his misgivings. Eminem is an artist that has also defied time and the industry’s ever dynamic state to establish himself as an household name that will forever remain in people’s hearts for his good (though sometimes controversial) music.
Eminem is up there with the greats of all time, this is echoed by critics and his following as well.
