(ThyBlackMan.com) Public relations for a celebrity is extremely vital; knowing what to say, when to say it and how to say it can separate the celeb who knows how to keep their image clean, versus the public relations disaster. Example, Chris Brown. With Nicki Minaj’s recent backlash against her “shade” toward Iggy Azalea at th2014 BET Awards, it appears Minaj’s PR team got to work quickly, having Minaj do an apology via Twitter. As vocal as Minaj is, it’s a rare thing for Minaj to retract any statement. But let’s just face it, it’s a practical chance that Nicki Minaj is jealous or maybe threatened of Iggy Azalea, and to be frankly honest, I can understand why.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a successful businessman, wife, husband, athlete etc. if anybody is coming for your position, feelings of doubt and insecurity can sometimes be inevitable. In Nicki Minaj’s case, being the only true female artist who had a relatively successful career the past five years, seeing a new female rapper come and do things you haven’t done can be a hard pill to swallow. A couple records and accomplishments Iggy has for herself; fourth female rapper to top the charts, she has the longest run for a female rapper at the top of the Hot 100 with “Fancy. She also joined the company of The Beatles as the only two artists to occupy the top two spots on the Hot 100. Iggy Azalea is the commodity in not just rap, but in music, too. With that being said, it’s not hard to see the tension from Nicki possibly boiling over soon.
So, should we see through Nicki Minaj’s media smoke screens? Of course we should. Remember, it wasn’t too long ago that she released Pink Friday: Reloaded, and it wasn’t too long ago in which we was skipping tracks on the CD at a track stars pace. Our memories aren’t that jaded. Besides, since this is still Nicki’s comeback year, the title for top female rapper is up for grabs.
Unless Nicki Minaj can pull a number one single out, Iggy Azalea is the top dog. Sorry, Nicki, but right now it’s Iggy. Now, I can give Nicki the benefit of the doubt; I’m not a fan of Iggy Azalea by any stretch; I frankly believe she’s not that good of an artist and she serves as a carefully crafted image with lyrics to go with it. But, I can’t hate the puppet, only the puppeteer on that one. So I can understand why Nicki has some bitterness because on her first album she was somewhat authentic.
But, again, Nicki Minaj, let’s not forget you made PFR, an album filled with pop songs and songs crafted for a new audience. Also, we all know you aren’t one to talk about authenticity. Your hair, body…you get the drift. So to conclude, Nicki Minaj, if you’re hating, you’re hating, just admit to it. A faux pas apology isn’t going to cut it. Iggy has certain things you don’t have (even though she doesn’t have your platinum and gold albums,) and you pretty much expressed it Sunday. It’s human nature to be envious of the next person on the rise sometimes, and all you can do from this point is to show her you’re still the queen of this rap ish.
Nicki is feeling the heat on her ass! She’s just like the boxer that got hit and shakes his head smiling saying “it didn’t hurt. IT HURT! And it’s hurtin’ and will continue to. She’s not handling it well and Iggy is gonna roll over her and Nicki’s having a fit! Lol!!! Have fun bitches.
I’m not a fan of today’s rap, but this sounds like the shit ALL rappers go through for the sake of being #1. The competition is fierce and it gets ugly at times. From what I’ve seen on the ghettomess.com (or something like that) website, Nicki will do anything on stage, like wear a fake penis. While its disgusting and ghetto, you have some people who will claim that Nicki’sa talented rapper who’s pushing the envelope. Puh-leez! Nowadays, rappers wouldn’t know talent if it bit ’em on the ear.
And this Iggy chick. I know nothing about her or her music, but I’m quite sure she will eventually show the world her true self. She’s new on the rap scene and will have to prove her “spittin” abilities in order to be considered “true to the game.”
Not that I care one way or the other. I would’t buy or listen to any of these females music anyway. It’s the same o, same-o when it comes to competition and jealousy among rappers.
f* your opinion there would be NO IGGY if it wasnt for nicki minaj so case closed , DA DUN DUN!
Iggy the great white hype
I iggy the great white hype
This article, while it made very few valid points is mediocrity at its best. The writer seems to know less about the situation then they may even realize. Nicki Minaj, although she may not have the most authentic figure she clearly wasn’t referring to physical appearance . It was a jab at artist (most commonly rappers) who do not write there own material. Now while iggy may have acquired a few minimal accomplishments at best in her short (yet long career, seeing as how she released 3 singles prior which all did horribly and now that she has ONE semi hit she all of a sudden is a threath) doesn’t posses the skill nor the talent to surpass someone on nicki’s calibar. But like you said, can’t hate the puppet just the puppeteer.
When I see and read articles like this why does it seem that black people behave and conduct themselves like they have no class at all. Not for themselves or anyone else.
