(ThyBlackMan.com) The other night I fell asleep with the television on, and when I woke up there was a video playing(it was on the centric channel)and this is the chorus that I heard (yes I googled it)
“Is it bad that I never made love, no I never did itBut I sure know how to f***I’ll be a bad girl, I’ll prove it to youI can’t promise that I’ll be good to you‘Cuz I’ve had some issuesI won’t commit, no, not having itBut at least I can admit that I’ll be bad to youYeah I’ll be good in bed, but I’ll be bad toyou”
The song is “Bad”, Wale featuring Tiara Thomas. I am thinking, what manner of madness is this? This is so NOT the message that our young girls should hear, listen to and definitely shouldn’t put into practice, as it is there are too many young girls and grown women that will boast of their sexual prowess and wonder why their track record of relationships is faulty. To many of us are making “lust” because we don’t understand that REAL love making starts with the merging of the MINDS….NOT the merging of the bodies. To many women have misplaced their worth below their waistline, and a lack of self love, self esteem, and a gross misunderstanding of how to “get a man” is what propels the women of our community to either use their wombs in exchange for validation, or think they can build a successful relationship on their back.
This is why women can’t present an argument to me that misogyny in hip hop is male based only, the hook was originally written by a BLACK WOMAN. A lot of sex based lyrics are being performed, promoted or perpetuated by WOMEN. Either we are in the videos, looking like we are getting ready to hit the stage, we are performing the songs ourselves, or promote this agenda in our communities with this warped thinking.
When asked her thoughts on the song this is what she said:
“It’s like a girl anthem and that’s what I like so much about it. You wouldn’t think that he would do that — a rapper puts out a girl anthem. But it’s true and it’s real. I think that’s why people connect with it.”
Sadly this is a girl’s anthem for all the mis-educated young girls and women that will have this song as their theme song and their mantra, this will double as the preliminary conversation before her clothes come off. Imagine this being ingrained in the minds of our daughters, I have issues, that I will acknowledge, but instead of working on the issues, I will offer you my womb. I know I can’t commit to a relationship, but I can commit to whatever length of time it takes you to climax. I’ll be bad to you…because obviously I have been the absolute WORST to myself.
I’ve never made love because I don’t love MYSELF, so I am incapable of loving you, but I will give you access to the most precious part of me. I can’t make love to you, but I can *** you, do we not see how CRASS our language has become when referring to the syncing of the sacred parts of our bodies? I will be good in bed, but I am unable to operate successfully outside of the bed room. I can’t give you my heart, mind and soul, but I am more than willing to give you my body. An anthem is a “rousing” or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body or cause. This song clearly isn’t uplifting, but it is definitely “rousing”, in fact it focuses on AROUSAL and advocates promiscuity. What “particular group” of women is this song targeted toward? BLACK WOMEN!!! What’s the “cause”? Unhealthy view of SELF and Sex. Some anthem right?
These are the type of messages that we have to provide a counter argument for…when did it stop being socially acceptable to be a “good girl?”
I guess with all these self proclaimed bad bitches/superheads/video vixens running around here…we think that we have to be the “baddest”.
The things that we view as worthy goals. Keep telling me the Black Woman doesn’t need to be reformed, I will gladly show and prove otherwise.
The only reason I provided the link to this song in my article is so that you(we)can know what to guard our daughter’s against.

Basically….she’s a hoe for life.
This is sad to accept being a jump off all your life. The mothers show more butt than the daughters. And the black women wonder why no one is puttin rings on these so call bad bitches.Facebook is the worse thing that happen to our black women everybody showing tits and butt but call themselves models who want a girl or wife who showing everything. As a man you will only be a moment and its sad because black women are the best thing made but with NO VALUE….
So Nobody remembers Rick James…supa freak??? Teddy P didn’t sound like he was taking no for an answer when he said turn em off!!! And made ya light a candle…
Old vs New is the old low hanging fruit. Old people getting rustled up cuz the beat is different and the slang has changed. Get over it. Yall had PAM GRIER…we got…take ya pic? idk
I guess Marylyn Monroe was wholesome…she put the ho in it….what’s different. As if 30yrs ago your grandpa didn’t hit up a bar or nightclub. Like people weren’t shacked up.
It’s a song and I know a lot more that are waaaay nastier and older.
If we love and value our children, and tell them every day that they DO matter in this world, then they won’t go looking for validation in the arms of the wrong people.
We must give our children strength, confidence, and most of all LOVE. Telling your kid “you ain’t nothin'” is what’s bringing us all down.
A little male perspective..young men and women are emulating the entertainers, who for all practical purposes have become their mentors/ parents. They say what sells, and social currency is equally valuable if not more valuable than the money which has become their God.
I agree the damage has been done. How do we put an end to this madness? I’m a 23 year old young black woman. Unlike some of my generation I see the world clearly. I’ve made my mistakes I’ve fell victim to the madness only difference is I chose to no longer be a victim I started by taking responsibility for the way I live, act, eat and think as well as the way I perceive things . It’s hard when society and media is painting another picture. We listen and dance to the very music that mocks and degrades us. Seeing how it’ll only get worst we’re going no where fast. What to do?
This is what you get when you have an industry fully take over a generation. This did not just happen, this has been in the works for as long as rap music has been an influence in the black community. What happen to positive massages? There are none, that’s right the mind numbing of the hood!! but guess what? a little to late to save yourselves now,the damage is done already!!!!
THETRUTHREALITYRADIO TAFARI UMA!!!
Black, miseducated/uneducated, raunchy females are a disrespectful group. They have no shame behaving like slutty whores. That’s exactly what they are and they’re very proud to be known as such. Actually, there are older females who behaved this way back in the day. This is why there are so many unwed and unfit black mom’s who don’t have clue on how to be decent mothers and women.
What I know for sure as a seventh day adventist every thing I read here they are all truth, it hurts me to see beautiful black women doing stuffs because they wanna belong, they wanna be recognize as the world,s baddest girl, ??????§ a shame that black women all round the globe had lost their values, worth, dignity and respect, here in nigeria we have culture that guides us as a people, back in the days in my tribe ibo I am from onitsha anambra state women does not drink alcohol nor smokes, young girls are prohibited from sleeping with any body called man, but now revearse ??????§ the case, I had been asked by my course mate why I don,t dress nice? I told her that I am a self directed lady I don,t belong rather I stand out, I think ??????§ right time black women stop all these sinful acts and activities they called civilization this ??????§ coming from me lilian okosi.
