(ThyBlackMan.com) One of the most telling truths about happiness is that we are pretty poor predictors of what will actually make us happy. We truly believe that if we just had that job or that house or that relationship, we’d be happy. But often, once we get it, the reality of what is required to have it and keep it sets in. You may have done a happy dance at first, but now you’re living it up close, every day. And when it comes to career, some women find that the amount and pressure of work – coupled with responsibilities at home – is more than what they wanted.
As you ponder what will actually make you happy and what changes you may have to make, don’t be afraid to break outside the mold you may have fit yourself into your entire career. Most people follow what’s normal and acceptable, and believe they have no other choice. But with planning, creativity and the faith to believe your life can be different, you can carve out a new way to work and live. What is one simple step you can take right now, to forge a new path uniquely designed for the life you were created to live?
This article makes a great point in recognizing that most people are not happy obtaining material success. I think that one of the main factors in this is the fact that we seem to not know how to differentiate needs versus wants. Unless you know what is essentially needed, how can you truly know what you want? History should be utilized in shaping what is important to each and every one of us as human beings. Money does not necessarily guarantee happiness, but it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Each one of us will need to honestly assess our value systems and face the reality of what our environments have given us for a foundation. What role models are prevalent in our lives and what level of faith do we possess? Once the truth is known, only then can we start going into a positive direction in living life to its fullest. I know that I am responsible for me and my actions. Before making any decision I try to weigh the pros and cons of the action and how it may impact my life both presently and in the future. Critical thinking has not been emphasized at the level it needs to be, which has led to many negative results. In my own family I often wonder why one person is addicted to drugs and alcohol, while others shun the scene completely. The end result is a matter of choice, which molds our various lifestyles and how we maintain them. Things will get better, one day at a time. Peace out, Papacool.
