(ThyBlackMan.com) This adorable little sister is doing and doing it big. Quvenzhane Wallis recently made history being nominated as the youngest actress and African American actress to be nominated for the Oscar. Quvenzhane did not take home the coveted award, but she still scored big on her next Hollywood endeavor.
Hours before her attendance at the Oscars the nine year old Beast of the Southern Wild star already had a reason to celebrate. Quvenzhane Wallis was given the good news that she would be cast in the title role of the new adaptation of Annie.
As most of us can recall the original Broadway Production of Annie opened in 1977. Annie was first released was in 1982 with Columbia Pictures. This new production of Annie will be produced by actors Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett- Smith, along with rapper Jay Z.
Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star,” said Sony production head Hannah Minghella. “She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”
Annie will be under the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment, founded by partners James Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett – Smith, have produced quality entertainment focused in film and television, which has generated more than $2.5 billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts and even more in home video sales.
Annie staring Quvenzhané Wallis is scheduled to hit theaters during the 2014 holiday season.
It remains my truest hope that Will and Jada Pinket-Smith will watch over Quvenzhane Wallis like hawks, like Michelle and Barack Obama watch over Malia and Sasha, like Jay-Z and Beyonce watch over Blue Ivy, like Richard Williams watched over Venus and Serena.
Miss Wallis has so much confidence, exuberance, and self-knowledge that I do not wish to see anyone in the mainstream media or the Hollywood industry make even the smallest attempt to break her happy spirit. She is my role model.
Please, Will and Jada, Jay-Z and Beyonce, do your very best to protect Miss Wallis because that is what she’s earned from all of us, her elders.
