Juwon Howard Is Living The Dream Under The Radar.

(ThyBlackMan.com) The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder are currently doing battle in the NBA Finals and the entire world seems to have an opinion on who is going to win. Is Lebron James is going to close or not close?

Is Russell Westbrook a true enough point guard to help lead his team to a championship? Will Dwayne Wade piece together back to back quality performances during these finals?  Is Kevin Durant the league’s best player? (NO Lebron is.) How come there isn’t a scientific study being done on Miami veteran reserve forward Juwon Howard’s career?

The fifth overall pick out of Michigan in 1994 and one of the (in)famous Fab 5, Juwon Howard has crafted a long career out of keeping his head down and just playing the game the right way. Now don’t get me wrong of you ever saw him  play in college you would have witnessed a very vocal and hyper player that never backed down from a challenge. The new (and old-he’s 39 after all. That’s 106 in professional basketball years.)

Juwon Howard has another role on his current team, the eighth overall, he’s the elder statesmen. Yes I borrowed the way overused sports cliche. Too much Sportscenter I guess.  Juwon Howard has been traded four times during his career-one of those trades involving Christian Laetner- he has also made over $151 million dollars during his career and seems to be a pretty stable father and man. That has to be worth something to any locker room especially that of the traveling circus that is the Miami Heat.

Juwon Howard has only played in 42 games during the regular season this year amassing 42 points and 47 rebounds overall. That’s an average of 1.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per game averages, respectively. Lebron James scored more points during game six of the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston a week and a half ago. Despite those numbers Howard has found a way to contribute to make it to consecutive NBA finals appearances with the Heat the past two seasons, the first trips of his career.

If the Heat win this year’s it all it would be Howard’s first championship just like Lebron James and Chris Bosh. He was an all-city Chicago Public League player just like teammate Dwayne Wade. He carries himself like a professional on and off the court just like fellow Heat members Shane Battier and Udonis Haslem. Maybe the player we, the media, and viewing public should be gluing our eyes to is the old guy at the end of the bench living the dream. He must know something we don’t.
