(ThyBlackMan.com) Republican presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) has come under fire over allegations that a newsletter he edited years ago contained racist commentary. The old geezer is being punk’d by people Black voters really should be leery of instead of quoting. Publicizing of comments published in the 1980s and 1990s reeks as a the latest agenda to mis-educate Black voters. To charge Paul with “racism” is misleading.
Ron Paul is far from being a foe of Black Americans. He is to be admired as a man of principles and a comrade in foiling America’s imperialists and the war crowd that probably were sources of the racially-charged commentaries. In contrast to what has turned up, if Blacks look a little closer they’d see that Paul’s political positions are in line with those preached and practiced by Martin Luther King, Jr. MLK’s position on foreign policy was vastly more similar to Ron Paul’s than it is to any other presidential candidate.
Ron Paul is hardly the racist that the mainstream media would have Blacks believe him to be. Blacks have more in common with Ron Paul’s opposition to America’s penchant for imperialistic wars and absurd rationalities behind them like “Manifest Destiny” and “American Exceptionalism” than with President Obama.
Think about it, Ron Paul has been on the national scene for 30 years. He has been labeled “conservative”, “Constitutionalist” and “libertarian”, but never “racist.” Much of Paul’s opposition comes from fear in some pro-Israel circles that Ron Paul reflects an ascendant faction that has little use for a foreign policy so tilted toward Israel. Ron Paul is not “a mainstream man” and the only candidate seeking to change the status quo in America. A medical doctor, Ron Paul advocates ending the drug war and fixing a biased court system that unfairly targets and punishes minorities.
Ron Paul may have made enough people mad enough to punk him, but Blacks have to be discerning in knowing what his actual views toward us are. Over the years Paul’s positions have remained clear and transparent. He hasn’t wavered in his voting or policy ideals. What candidate can you name that is more serious on fiscal matters? Ron Paul wants to get rid of many federal agencies and would like to audit and perhaps abolish the Federal Reserve Bank. Ron Paul advocates an end to the death penalty and, as president, plans to bring all military troops home.
People tied to the military/industrial complex loathe Ron Paul the most. He labels their banter against Iran “warmongering” and states: “In all wars minorities suffer the most. So I hope that they join me in this position … against the war in Iraq… and the war on drugs.” What other candidates will stand up and say “I will pardon … everybody convicted for non-violent drug acts and drug crimes. This is where the real discrimination is … the judicial system … that I’m attacking.”
Ron Paul brings a breath of honesty and accountability to the 2012 presidential races. Blacks of all political stripes would benefit from an honest debate during this season about campaign finance reform, military spending, torture of enemy combatants, immigration, the Federal Reserve, free trade agreements, gay marriage and prison sentences for drug use Paul’s candidacy brings about. In his opposition to American imperialism, Ron Paul provides a certain appeal to people who see through the lies fuelling the Bush/Obama foreign policy: using the American military on behalf of the banks and multinationals. An unbridled military industrial complex is against the interest of any thinking American, and many voters are starting to rethink America’s foreign policy. For these views, Ron Paul has growing appeal among Americans and is being “played”; as he’s portrayed as a racist on racist mediums.
As the primaries play out, look at Paul for practical political positions that help our nation. Black voters should move beyond the newsletters in judging Ron Paul. Try judging his efforts to end a “war on drugs” that has contributed to the mass incarceration of the poor and people of color, you’ll find him far from racist and quite progressive.

Have any of you who have read his newsletters ever seen his VOTING RECORD in congress? or the speeches he accompanies that with? I challenge you to find someone more about the equal treatment and opposition to racism than Ron Paul. I have heard him called a Randian (not referring to his son, to Ayn Rand, the philosopher), if you believe this to be his influence, then perhaps you might want to consider that both Ayn Rand and Ron Paul are on record for calling racism the ugliest form of collectivism – which both oppose. Seriously, these newsletters were an employment mistake, written by a ghost writer under his dollar. What more than an apology and acceptance of responsibility do you want?
Yeah right. His name was still attached to the newsletters. Has he disavowed his and Rands’ view of the civil rights act? Its amusing how you house ni**ers and your masters try to pass him off as a champion of non Caucasians all of a sudden, without a proven track record of caring about our concerns. He’s just another pale politician trying gain some much needed color who has for this election, against a mulatto, who has the majority of my people fooled.
Ron Paul was an obstetrician. He delivered over 4000 babies. When he opened his practice, there was no medicare or medicaid. He helped the poor and provided his services free of charge regardless of race. He is a very modest man and doesn’t take enough credit publicly for these deeds Please watch this video. He did not even remember this black man, yet this man stepped forward to talk about his experience with Dr Paul in 1972.

Please watch the following video, but listen to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speak about foreign policy. The only candidate from either party who has a similar foreign policy to Dr. King is Ron Paul.

You guys must be drinking. Have you read the things that were in his little paper? Did you even hear his son speak while running for office? Than man wants to take things back 100 years. Are you aware of where that will put those of you who are of colour??Wake up and read more than one article. Some Blacks fell for Jim Jomes as well.
Wonderfully written piece – Thank you!
Refreshing article. Who should Dr. Paul choose as vice president?
I am big supporter of Ron Paul and I think we should check out what Dr. Paul has to say.
While Iowa & New Hampshire have been decided with Paul coming in 3rd and 2nd respectively, actually Iowa was a 3-way tie when you consider the top three all get 3 delegates and South Carolina is this month on Jan 21st. Blacks have an opportunity to push issues that impact us most adversely into the national conversation. South Carolina has an Open Primary where anyone can vote in the GOP race despite party registration. Blacks would do well to vote for Ron Paul and help him win the GOP nomination and perhaps then President Obama will be forced or given cover to debate issues pertaining to racial justice, issues he has run from his entire time in office I might add.
thanks for speaking the truth.

Thanks for the refreshing article.
Excellent article. Thank you. I will share it.
Thank you for this insightful article on Dr. Paul. Ne needs more members of the black community to understand his positions so they can relate to what he preaches and defend him. If he gets enough black people defending him against white news actors and politicians, the issue will dissolve.
The establishment’s policies have harmed minorities:
– broke up families
– imprisoned nonviolent males
– killed servicemen in unnecessary wars
– prohibited undercutting established competition
– prevented moving your child to a good school
– promoted teenage pregnancies
– killed millions of unborn
– licensed against low capital businesses
– regulated away entry level jobs
– destroyed the value of your earnings and savings
– destroyed your equity with mortgage bubble and teaser loans
– demagogued group envy and group privilege
– death penalty
– waged endless war on non-whites
It’s time to free your family. Ron Paul 2012
Well that is a nice start. I agree with it all. I agree with Ron Paul its time to end Richard Nixon’s Drug War. Its a medical addiction issue, not a criminal issue. It is the criminalization of drugs that makes for all the crime. Just imagine if they passed a law against milk and eggs. The prices of milk and eggs would be high. Selling it would dangerous. Just like when alcohol was illegal and made for gangsters, so too drug prohibition makes for today’s gangsters. So where is Obama on ending the Drug War? Yep, he laughed at the idea. Since being ‘the man’ in the White House, his administration has gone after LEGAL marijuana states. He has been worse then GW Bush on the Drug War issue. What about Ron Paul’s idea of ending the Death Penalty? He has pointed out that via DNA testing, many innocent black men have been – well, murdered by the State. Ron Paul wants to end the Death Penalty. Indeed, Ron Paul calls both the Death Penalty and Drug Laws as the last two forms of institutional racism. He wants to end both the Death Penalty and the Drug Laws. Once drugs are legalized, the crime that goes with it will go down. Medically it will be a big issue and perhaps society will push resources for drug treatment rather than prison time. Finally, war. GWBush fooled us all in 2003 about Iraq and the WMDs they did not have. But they did not fool Ron Paul. Today Obama is fretting like everyone else about Iran’s “desire” to have a nuclear bomb, yet Ron Paul is not. The inspectors see no evidence that they are trying for one. Sure they want a nuclear ELECTRIC plant, but inspectors show all is clear. So Ron Paul is not fooled by all the war mongering, yet here is President Obama not so secretly murdering (assassinating) Iran’s nuclear electricians. That Obama is doing just as GWBush was doing is no secret. So Obama is the same as GW Bush on war, but not Ron Paul. I would love to see a Ron Paul vs President Obama debate. If anything, it will force Obama to adopt these views to win the election again.
This article is spot on! Ron Paul is all about restoring and protecting liberty…and that means civil liberties. He is the only candidate that continues to go against the groupthink and crony capitalism occurring in our government. I really hope he receives the black community’s vote for these reasons and that people aren’t swayed by the mass media, which is corporate-controlled.
Thank you for yet another very fair article about the Honorable Congressman Paul.
Excellent article. Will share far and wide. Thank you for your analysis of Dr. Paul’s position of liberty and equality for all, treating each as an individual instead of pitting factions against each other. Truly a uniter.
