(ThyBlackMan.com) The conversation about whether Herman Cain sexually harassed two women while leading the National Restaurant Association in the 90’s brings to mind another famous case of sexual harassment involving another black conservative in the 90’s. Before the sexual harassment documents surfaced, comparisons between Herman Cain and Clarence Thomas were being made which usually involved Uncle Tom references and accusations of coonery. Since becoming a front-runner for the GOP nomination for President, Herman Cain has received more media scrutiny since being accused of possibly modeling his 9-9-9 tax plan on a default tax plan in the video game SimCity. What this extra scrutiny is revealing is a pattern of deception by Herman Cain.
Before Clarence Thomas apologist start denigrating Anita Hill all over again or attacking the credibility of the two un-named women at the center of the sexual harassment cases against Cain, it is important to note that Clarence Thomas vehemently denied the charge and refused to submit to a lie detector test, which Anita Hill took and passed.
Despite revelations of other cases of sexual harassment after Thomas was 
seated on the Supreme Court, if Fox News commentators are an indicator, Herman Cain defenders will predictably use the Clarence Thomas Defense and claim that these are simply partisan attacks that represent a “high-tech lynching” of a black conservative by a liberal media just as Thomas had claimed over a decade ago.
When Politico first reported that it has seen documentation and confirmed the names of at least two women who were each given a five-figure settlement after accusing Herman Cain of sexual harassment, Cain initially denied remembering anything and unable to recall ever sexually harassing anyone. In one testy exchange when asked if he had ever been accused in his life of sexual harassment, Cain replied, “Have you ever been accused of sexual harassment”!
Monday night Herman Cain started to remember a little more telling a Fox News host, “I have never sexually harassed anybody in my life. And this formal charge was made. And then once it was made, I recused myself and turned it over to my general counsel and one of the other executives that worked for me,” He went further in denying any knowledge of a payout to settle the two cases.
It does not seem reasonable to believe that Herman Cain would not remember being the target of two different formal sexual harassment investigations that ended in five figure settlements in both cases.
At a press conference held at the National Press Club in New York, which Herman Cain oddly ended by singing Amazing Grace, Cain said, “If the restaurant association did a settlement, I wasn’t even aware of it and I hope it wasn’t for much. If there was a settlement, it was handled by some of the other officers at the restaurant association.” However, as the story develops so does Cain’s memory of details.
Herman Cain seems to have developed a pattern of deception and lying during his short time in the national spotlight no matter the story. Although politicians are usually ridiculed when they make apparent flip-flops on issues for the politics of the moment, Cain pretty much got a pass from the national media when flip-flopping within days of being asked about whether President Obama went outside of the law in ordering the killing of US citizen Anwar al-Awlaki without due process.
When asked if his 9-9-9 tax plan was inspired by the video game SimCity, Cain vehemently denied it. “It’s an original idea, and to people who say it’s modeled after a game — it’s a lie,” Herman Cain said during a campaign stop. “That’s all I’m going to say. It is a lie. You see, that’s the difference when you become one or two in the polls. People make up stuff. That is a lie. I’m not going to take it back and not going to politically say, but unfortunately, that is not totally true. It’s a lie.”
What is unfortunate is that Herman Cain does not seem to be very honest when confronted with questions related to his campaign and his past professional experience that he often cites. What is it that Cain is referencing when he says he is not going to make a “political” comment? What part of the SimCity 9-9-9 tax plan did not totally inspire his 9-9-9 tax plan? Does Herman Cain need to check with campaign staffer Rich Lowrie who is credited with coming up with the plan? Interestingly Lowrie ignored calls to clarify if SimCity inspired the plan.
Herman Cain’s biggest problem is he comes off as being dishonest. Whether he remembers sexually harassing at least two women or knows the settlement terms is not important by itself. Whether Cain believes all U.S.citizens are afforded absolute protections under the constitution or he believes the executive branch of the federal government has the authority to convene a death panel and order the execution of US citizens and their family members is not a central issue to Cain’s candidacy. Which part of reports that his much hyped 9-9-9 tax plan comes from a video game are not “totally true” is not what primary voters should be most concerned about.
What primary voters should be concerned with when it comes to Herman Cain is the totality of it all and the picture it paints of Cain’s character. Herman Cain likes to quote the bible and sing hymnals after press conferences so it seems appropriate to reference another famous Cain.
Herman Cain speaks of originality defending his 9-9-9 tax plan but his character is looking very familiar to that of the biblical character Cain. Cain of biblical fame was the world’s first murderer and perhaps its first liar evidenced by when asked about his brother Abel’s whereabouts, lied when he replied “I don’t know, Am I my brother’s keeper?” No ones is going as far as to call Herman Cain a murderer or an adulterer, but he is looking like quite the lair based on his apparent nature to deceive.
