(ThyBlackMan.com) President Barack Hussein Obama is an African-American, but not in the traditional sense. His wife is. His children are, but he is not. His father was an African, his mother was an American and this was his paradigm until he reached adulthood. The President was raised by his white American family who gave him quite the “can do” mentality. Sure, he grew up ethnically mixed, but he did so on Hawaii where there may have been questions about what he was, but where I’m sure he never faced the level of racism that he would have if he were raised in Kansas where his family was originally from. I suspect that this is why the Dunham’s stayed on Hawaii in the first place.
Barack was tall, handsome, exceptionally smart, charming, and light-skinned. It could be argued that he has lived an exceptionally charmed life for a black man. These privileges which have allowed the President to go further in America than any man who ever looked like him before are also his problem. The President’s exceptional status is a double-edged sword. I suspect that many bi-racial children experience living in the black and white Americas from an insider’s perspective where most African-Americans can only experience it from the historical perspective of being descendant from slaves. Perhaps this lends itself to convoluted thinking about race. Perhaps it lends itself to misunderstanding the axiom that no matter what you do in life, to some people in America, you are still just a nigger.
I believe that President Obama may not have been aware that so much of the country thinks this way. It has become very fashionable in America to act as though the struggle for equality is over. It is very easy for both left and right to gloss over racial issues in the new sport of pretending it never happened. I suspect that President Obama may have fallen into the category of someone who thought that it was over at large. Those elevated death threats were just a few nut-jobs out there and the electorate itself was still not subject to those kinds of forces, he might have thought. I believe that the President has all along underestimated the motivating force of racism during his term. I believe that he may not have wanted to believe that the galvanizing force in the Tea Bag Party was racism itself or that elected representatives, many of whom are his former colleagues would actually use his ethnic heritage as a political weapon. It is one thing for Orly Taitz to call for his birth certificate, but it’s an entirely different thing to have Jim DeMint refuse to cede the point on national television.
He had to be thinking that they were the rational adults and that they in government would cut through the noise to do what’s right for the American people. Couldn’t they see how desperately the people wanted change in 2008? Couldn’t they see that the new direction is clear? He may have pondered. No Mr. President, they are no different than those who call you a Nazi and a nigger. No Mr. President, they are no different than those who call you the anti-Christ and phone in death threats. And no Mr. President, they do not want to work with you on anything. They just want to get your black ass out so that they can get back to redistributing the wealth upwards so that it can trickle down back into their pockets. That’s all that they really care about. The fact that he is African-American just makes him an easy target for racism and xenophobia. The fact that he hasn’t lived a traditional African-American life may have left him unprepared. I’m here to tell the President that the time for him to be an easy target is over.
It is time for you to be frank with the people. Tell them how they are being manipulated against their own best interests and do it over and over again until they get the point. You are going to have to find a way to penetrate the right-wing media bubble. I suggest you start issuing direct challenges to their real leadership: Limbaugh, Beck, and Palin. The elected officials in the House and the Senate have very little sway over public opinion, but those three make up the bullhorns of hatred that seek to take you down and to enslave every single American to corporate interests. It is time to monopoly bust. It is time for union strengthening. It is time for a kamikaze President who doesn’t give a damn about being reelected. It may be Barack Hussein Obama’s destiny to perform a truly selfless service to his nation and to be the sacrificial lamb that it needs to survive. Something or someone has to wake this nation from its apathetic slumber before the corporations own it lock, stock, and barrel. The problem with Barack Hussein Obama is that he has yet to show that kamikaze attitude…yet!!!

I do not get why you think Obama would clean up the corporate rich folk.He is one of the fat catz. He bailed out all the big finance companies. The tax payers got no bail outs. We lost our 401K’s. Then he bailed out GM and all the share holders lost all their investments and savings. I know one widow whose parents had invested all their money in GE. She lost everything. Every time we print more money it makes the cash we have worth less. So if you have any savings in 2 years it will loose value. Gold is not going up in price it is that the value of the dollar is shrinking. America has lost her AAA credit rating. That leadership role internationally is an honor. We are on the verge of loosing more of our credit rating because we are so far in debt. My momma didn’t raise me to live off of others. but to use what I got to get where i need to go. We need to stick together and not get stupid.
BFL, Ummm….. are you implying that there are no black people who would like to ensure that their President is a legal citizen of the US? If so, I have to say that is very faulty logic. I do agree that your two perspectives on the black experience would be very different. I have to say though, that I think all Americans who want the best for their country would want to make sure that the person voted to the office has the right to assume the duties of the given office. I don’t think providing a valid birth certificate is too much to ask. If I have to do it for my passport or driver’s license, why should the person elected to the office of the Presidency be any different? I mean the President IS supposed to be one of our peers in society whom the majority agree to, right? If that is so, what exempts him or her from having to provide the same information you and I do?
If you or I were to say to the DMV, Social Security Office or County Courts (say for a marriage permit or the like) “Well the mayor of the town I was born in THINKS he remembers me being born there at that time” you know what kind of response we would get. We’d get a stone cold unimpressed look from the person we said that to and be instructed to reapply for the given service with the correct documentation and not to return and waste anymore of their time until we had done so under enforcement of the authorities at the site of the request. I bet we’d even be physically removed from the property if we tried to argue the validity of our explanation, especially after being told to return another time WITH the proper valid documents.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was NOT born in the US, but WAS permitted to run for the office of Governor of the State of California. I am SURE that the proper documentation in question was provided. Everyone knows he was born in Austria. So the fact that Barack Hussein Obama’s name includes Hussein in it isn’t any indication that he has origins to his name that are not from this country? Hmmmnnn. Very Interesting.
I think it is a direct and logical question to ask, “Where does the Hussein part of his name come from and by what means is he a legal citizen of the US that qualifies him to be eligible to run for the office of the Presidency? Moreover what qualifies him to assume the responsibilities associated with office? I would have to say that if proof of birth certification or legal citizenship is NOT attained then he does NOT have the right to assume the office of President nor its duties. This is just simple logic. None of us can keep our kids in public school without the proper documentation of the necessary immunizations, right? So why is HE so different? What makes him special? Nothing. Not money, not power, not perceived capabilities, not blackness, not policy changes once he assumed the role of President. Nothing. The only thing that makes him different is the level of importance others place on him, and that is why it would be difficult to impeach him. So many people treat him like a god, yet he is human and has faults like the rest of us. Logic should be the winner here, not idolization of someone just as human as the next guy.
Twana,
I never suggested that he act a fool so to speak. This article was written at the height of a political fight with the GOP when it appeared that the President was just playing too nice with them. Perhaps the timing of the publishing on this site is a bit off.
I’m all for him telling the people the straight truth about the system, not about going off. It’s time for exposure and he needs to shine a light on exactly what it is that the GOP is doing. Footsies got us nothing. He had the center. I was upset because I wanted him to go harder on the GOP, not because I don’t think that he’s black enough. I do think that he held out hope longer than most of us would have had we been in that position. Is that so unreasonable? I do believe that he had a different upbringing than do most African-Americans. Don’t you? So my thinking and his thinking about race is likely to differ. I love all people and I don’t even truly believe in the concept of race, but America does.

Measured actions are key in leadership and one never does anything to negatively impact the ultimate goal. Personally, I would be irritated if President Obama did as suggested… “It is time for a kamikaze President who doesn’t give a damn about being reelected.” So, acting a fool and going off would make him more Black? Furthermore, the hue of a brotha’s skin don’t make his Blackness; and, I applaud him for not feeling the need to prove it. In my mind, President Obama’s life in white-land prepared him best. I’ve been there (on a smaller scale- of course) — and it teaches you a steel resolve to be who you are and not give a rip what anybody has to say about it.
Orly,
Go back to the Ukraine or wherever it is you are from. You have no business commenting on American political affairs and how dare your foreign-born self demand our President’s Birth Certificate. Orly Taitz, the fake lawyer-dentist-political activist bimbo. Beat it.

Lynn,
It’s is funny to me that you feel this way but I do understand. I often come down on the #professionalleft for the exact same thing. Those who know me best ride me for being so pro-Obama. I believe in the man. Take one look at my twitter page http://twitter.com/blackfrankluntz and tell me that I don’t have the Obama’s back. I’ve supported him since 2004. I’m entitled to my opinion and you to yours.
Respectfully
Not only Jim Demint needs to call for congressional investigation of ObamaFraudGate, but the whole Congress should join. Obama sits in the White House with a stolen CT SS number 042-68-4425, this is a felony. Others are sitting in prison for SS fraud. Not only Obama needs to be removed from office, he needs to be criminally prosecuted for social security fraud and elections fraud. more info on my website http://www.OrlyTaitzESQ.com

I am always impressed with these fauxgressives and blacker-than-thou jokers that have the sheer gall to pull this “here’s whatcha outta do Obama! I knows whut you outta do” bullshit. Crap you heard in the barbershop is not a good jumping off point for making “suggestions” to the President.
If Obama was listening to you pseudo-intellectuals he’d still be in the Illinois state senate. He damn sure wouldn’t be where he is. Thank God he pays you utterly jealous nimcopoops no mind at all.
EDP4BHO, you must understand that I am one of Barack Obama’s most staunch supporters. I have criticized the President in public once and only once. You happen to have read the article containing that criticism. It wasn’t intended to scorn the President as much as it was to communicate to him. He is biracial and many biracial children will tell you that they view race differently. I love President Obama and I only wished to offer him guidance on how to deal with the GOP for what it is.
This is one of the stupidest and most unnecessary diatribes I have seen since, oh, last week. You guys just don’t get it. President Obama doesn’t have the same spirit as you pseudo intellectuals who are always and forever obsessing about his difference. He’s not black enough……no, he’s black enough, just not as angry as you. Allow this fine man to be who he is. God saw fit to allow him this office, why can’t you just let him be “the president”? You’re as bad as all those you claim will do him harm and who he should stand up to. You are the one who deems him unequal and therefore not appropriate for the office of the presidency by his very unwillingness to get down as low as would suffice your carnal desires.
