(ThyBlackMan.com) Believe it or not, you can eat your way to better skin. It’s true! You know the saying you are what you eat and well, putting good stuff into your body will not only affect you physically but it can also give your skin the boost it needs.

The good thing about this fact is that there are all kinds of yummy foods that can help you achieve better looking, and even feeling, skin. And with the winter season being one of the hashes times of the year, the elements can really do a number on your skin. Now, of course, there are lotions and creams you can use, but sometimes they don’t do the job. Instead of working from the outside in, why not work from the inside out? If you want better skin, eat the foods that are naturally made of the compounds to give you better skin.

Wondering what those foods are? Here are just a few.

Avocado

Who doesn’t love avocado? There are so many ways to eat it and since it’s rich in all kinds of antioxidants and good monounsaturated fats, it can keep your skin moist while reducing inflammation in your body. So go ahead and load up on some avocado toast, guacamole, and even smoothies that contain the beloved fruit.

Oysters

I don’t know about you, but my grandmother used to make some amazing oyster dressing. It was the only time I ate oysters. As an adult, I can appreciate all of the beneficial proprieties they have that can greatly and positively affect the skin. Some people like them and some people don’t, but just know that oysters are super high in zinc, which works to repair the collagen in your skin. You can also find the same benefits in crabs too!

Fish

This one is really a no-brainer for many people. Fish is loaded with the good stuff. It’s delicious and can be cooked many ways. Fatty fishes like salmon, herring, and tuna all have the much sought after omega-3s, which are great for retaining moisture in your skin’s barrier. Eating fish will help keep your skin hydrated and supple as well.

Spinach

I am a big fan of spinach. While it seems to take a whole bunch to get a good side dish of the healthy veggie once cooked, it works wonders for your skin. Popeye the Sailorman had the right idea. It strengthens your body, is an anti-ager (thanks beta-carotene) and is wonderful at moisturizing your epidermis (outer layer of your skin). The latter works to prevent wrinkles and remove the dead skin that can cause unsightly problems. Spinach is great for a salad, a smoothie or sautéed with onions and garlic for a real savory treat.

Eating your way to a more vibrant you is something that is within your reach. We are just a few days into 2018 and there is no time like the present. Plus, when you understand how foods work, you can better use them to your advantage by allowing them to help you reach your health goals.
