(ThyBlackMan.com) I swear you can’t fuck with me…
I love hip-hop. I want to support it. I try to understand those who are a few years behind me and support their efforts to become empowered and thoughtful individuals. But after hearing the lyrics from a Lil Wayne song (an artist who’d already pushed me to the edge), I had to take a moment of pause and make a quick comment regarding how he has firmly positioned himself as an enemy of the black community. In the song, “We Be Steady Mobbin,” Lil Wayne says this:
But I can fuck your girl and make her nut for me
Then slut for me, then kill for me, then steal for me
And of course it’ll be your cash
And I’ll murder that bitch and send her body back to your ass”
This verse, and a few others, served as the straw that broke the camel’s back. There is a difference between good, fun entertainment and (as one of our Facebook fans refers to as) “weaponized” brainwashing. It’s one thing when scattered bits of poison happen to hit your children. It’s another thing when it’s concentrated, packaged and targeted in large quantities. Corporate America has wired this game in such a way that millions of our kids are encouraged to consume the messages of Lil Wayne and other artists, the same way soldiers are asked to recite the pledge of allegiance every morning before breakfast.
As a direct result of messages they are fed from commercialized hip-hop music, millions of black boys are religiously emulating the behaviors being promoted by their favorite hip-hop artists….black men are the most likely to die from gun violence, spreading HIV in droves (with far too many of us not going to the doctor), the most likely to go to prison and the least likely to be educated. Commercialized hip-hop is no longer good, fun entertainment; it has evolved into a regimen of brainwashing that is no less powerful than the one that Adolf Hitler used during the Nazi regime.
I am now officially boycotting Lil Wayne. It breaks my heart to do this, because the last thing I’d ever want to do is make an enemy out of my own brother. I also consider Lil Wayne to be one of the most talented commercialized hip-hop artists in America (I clearly admit to respecting his lyrical capabilities). But one thing I can’t support is this kind of irresponsible music without realizing the implications that it has on our young children, and how their lives are destroyed before they even have a chance to make decisions for themselves.
The same way the Arabic community pushes children to memorize the Qur’an at an early age, African American children memorize the recipe for their own self-destruction on the radio every single morning.
Lil Wayne may continue to make hits, but I’ve personally got him and his record label on my hit list. I doubt that he’ll hear the words of his own community, but the least we can do is refuse to buy his records. Our children are depending on us to be responsible, and something has got to give.

anyways, lil wayne on top ?????????????????????????????
WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE……Lil Wayne music is not the cause for the way black kids or any other kids act these days…. It’s the uneducated parents that focus more on Michael Jordan shoes, going to the club, buying rims for cars, shopping for clothes, and all the other materialistic things in life instead of focusing on raising their children in the best way to become productive citizens. So stop making excuses and trying to blame the music instead of telling black people what they need to know. Stop blaming another black man for the troubles of half-raised children. Thats our problem; we still stuck in the white man;s era of blaming the black man for everything and its a shame that we blaming ourselves….Eminem makes music as such but we have not heard one word about that or blamed him….Ohhhhh, I forgot, he whit so he gotta be right….GET REAL
The whole sick part of this doctor is no one can define art vulgarity for any society, only an individualcan cut it off or on, there are those that can lookat sheep shit in shallow water for hours, call it art then go eat a sandwich, others see it as what it
is and go kill fro
gs, the bottom is as humans we all have what is called “our own free agency, but followers get locked up for stupid stuffdon’twasteyourtime, let these folks go get there bail money f zrom theresource of art
To all, I think what Dr. Watkins is really talking about, but didn’t take it there, is the impact of Wayne and other thug rappers, who are the popular rappers, on our youth. Their influence is not so much in the lyrics, but on what is considered “cool” in day to day presentation. Let’s keep it real. Thug rappers are wearing sagging pants, white t’s, tatted up all over, locks – even to awards shows. Let’s add to the fact that these rappers are NOT poetic. They don’t even know how to articulate the English language. And yet they still make millions at promoting rebellion against the status quo PERIOD. So then our children show up for job interviews – not knowing how to articulate (speak), not wearing professional clothes that fit, tattoos on their necks, hair unkept, because they thought it was cool and acceptable at home, at school, and even at church. And then we get upset when the employee does not hire them or the teacher sends them home because they refuse the status quo. Thug rap is a negative influence even subliminally that does regularly impact a young person’s early decisions which will ultimately influence the rest of their lives.
This song is unbelievably old, I can’t believe you’re just now noticing this line. I’m still a teen, this song had no impact on me when I heard it 2 years ago nor does it have any impact on me today. It doesn’t make me want to go out and rape females or murder anybody, and anyone who take that line seriously is an idiot. Also, if you think that line is outrageous then you obviously haven’t heard any of Odd Future’s song (most notably, any of Tyler, the Creator’s songs) I also listen to Odd Future and their songs have no impact on this 16 year old either.
Lil Wayne is an entertainer most of his lyrics are rated r explicit lyrics it’s marked on the cd it’s no different then buying a movie about a serial killer that rapes young women and cuts there bodies up it’s fiction it’s for people who like explicit lyrics if you don’t like that type of rap don’t by it but why try to bring another black man down for the role he chooses to play in the enertainment industry if your gonna boycott him you should boycott actors who play roles that disrespect beat and kill women also it’s fiction get it together people wow!!!
this is a joke this dr is too. its not rappers fault u have no dad. or u sell drugs. during the reign of the 80’s big daddy kane rakim krs one public enemy. dope was being sold all over blacks killing blacks all over gangs, the hoods were worst than they are today. so hip hop has no impact on crime either way if music is positive or negative. ur excuseing sorry men and women by blameing rappers. no black women has ever been calle a bitch in a song it is never race specific. white women dont complain wen eminem says bitch. or hispanic women dont complain wen fat joe joell ortiz jim jones say bitch. black women and yale jus love to complain and badly need a life. u gone way too far u are ridicolous for this claim of hip hop destroying black community. wen blacks are responsible themselves for wat goes on in they own life. blameing rappers is the new way of blameing the white man. puttting off ur responsibilty on someone else. u are sad dr please get a life. the lyrics wasnt nuthin other than lyrics. it is JUST MUSIC. come on.
Dr. Watkins,
Let me commend you on taking a stand for what you believe to be the right and responsible thing to do; despite those who feel you’re hating on Wayne or that you don’t understand that parents need to do a better job raising or monitoring what their kids listen to. Here’s the real question though…will boycotting Weezy really do anything to prevent the systemic decay of our culture? Will radio stop playing it? Will those who love Wayne and what he stands for stop supporting him? Will supports really buy into your theory of “recipe for self-destruction”? No, they won’t.
In fact, boycotting will do nothing more than make supports fight for his continue existence in the game. Rather than boycott and continue to turn us against one another, let’s focus on creating alternative vehicles through which are kids and adults can receive more variety.
Let’s face it, all of us over 30 grew up on the Ghetto Boys, NWA, Too Short, Scarface, Spice One, ect.,ect. and we all knew that for the most part, it was eloborate story telling. Today’s youth know it as well; What they don’t realize is how it’s shaping long term attitudes. Therefore, going after the Weezy’s of the world, in my opinion, is a waste of time; rather, find avenues or opportunities for offering variety through the media mogules who support and disseminate the message – don’t kill the messenger; Yesterday’s Bushwick Bill is today’s Little Wayne who’se tomorrows…….
look at the comments clearly lil wayne is not to blame but his love for fame and money is, he would not be famous if he weren’t talking like this, and on another note why fight for these people when they don’t give a fuck about you, look when Lebron fired his whole staff and hired all black people you think those folks didnt put him on their hit list or when kanye called george bush racist on national tv he wasnt gonna be on there hitlist, i am done fighting for black america, i am not even american wasnt born here but the black americans fail to understand the white man cant fuck you without help from the black man, look at Obama invading an African country, you black Americans make me sick i wish one day the black American race could be exterminated, you unloyal self hating monkey minded fuckers make me sick.
WHAT THE HELL DUDE SOME KIDS ARE SMART ENOUGH NOT TO THINK WEEZY IS DOING ALL THAT IN REAL LIFE AND IT IS NOT ONLY THE BLACK KIDS MAJORITY OF THE WHITE KIDS LISTEN TO THIS MUSIC SO DON’T JUST SAY ITS THE BLACKS I AM BLACK IT HAS NOT MESS ME UP I HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR GOOD GRADES AND PARENTS IT MAY HAVE PUT U OVER THE EDGE
Like everybody saying here. If your kids is using the excuse of what they heard in a song for their actions, people need to go back and look at how they raise their kids.. Wayne is my favorite rapper and none of his lyrics has influence me to do anything.. Maybe its because i was raised different or maybe its because 9 times out of 10 they are not doing what they say in the songs.. Just entertainment!! But in the dictionary.. As another fellow rapper said, HATE COMES FIRST AND LOVE IS LAST!!
you all sound like god damn idiot’s he make’s great music he has a skill and as far as I know that is the only thing he is very exceptional at, if you guys are such great parents as you say you are and you want to control everything your kid see’s and hears then practice what you preach “good parents” control 100% of your kids life and shadow him until one day he hates everybody and himself and then decides hey what the fuck am I doing im gonna kill myself hahahaha
Damn!! them lyrics are twisted (in a good way of course) keep it up weezy, tell ur haters like it is
Co sign @ the guy above me.
really if anyone’s’ kid goes out and thinks
a) lil wayne is actually doing the stuff he talks about in his songs
and b) this stuff is acceptable, then you need to ask yourself how you are raising your kid
@Shon i agree with you wholeheartedly. you do realize though, that there are LARGE segments of our community who do not have parents — their parents are in jail, addicted to drugs or otherwise absent or incapable of proper parenting. what then do we do about these young people who do not have any real guidance at home..???
stfu boycott weezy rules n u can never stop us from buying his records!!!!!
Shon, I see your point but the reality of society, especailly black society, is that these kids and young adults don’t have the ability to separate entertainment from the real world. Many of them don’t even fear death and wouldn’t think twice before puling the trigger on somebody. There are good caring parents and the kids are still out of control.
Man its called music and entertainment if your child actually goes out and do the stuff these rappers talk about then you need to do a better job parenting your child
