(ThyBlackMan.com) Self hate is defined as the intense dislike of oneself, many in today’s society suffer from such a thing. It has been brought to my attention by various forms of social media the self hate of black men and women. These individuals were not born to hate themselves but were forced into it by the beliefs and experiences of society. Every single day we are invaded with images that display blacks in such a negative aspect. Whenever blacks are shown in a positive aspect it is automatically seen as an exception, not a rule. Think about this when someone says food stamps or welfare a black face comes to their mind.
Political and racial branding is a thing and we know for a fact that there are far more whites on welfare and receiving government assistance more than any other group of people. Not only are the feelings of self hatred perpetuated by the “system” but by other black folks.
One example is this black woman on my twitter saying she was not going to have babies with a black man, because she wanted beautiful babies with nice hair, I was appalled by it to say the least what a damn disgrace. We have more impact than we know and we have to stop sitting back and watching things occur that is the issue with the black community.
The best way to lead is by example, it is one thing to face discrimination but what do you do when it is from your own people? The double consciousness is very real in today’s society I have seen so many fall victim to it. We all play a role, we need to stop just existing in the white man’s world but instead uplift our own and build up one another. How can we unite and preserve when we are at the throats of one another? I see a lot of these rappers and pro ball players with a white girl on their arm and many bash us black women. Any man that can fix his mouth to slander a black queen from which he was given life he is an abomination to himself.
We need to learn to love who we are and what we have come from, if not how can you love yourself. Learn to correct those when they need to be corrected, and also displaying positivity in the black communities. Hiding behind labels such as light skin and dark skin is another issue recognize it for what it is we are all black. Embrace who you are do not run from it for that is a way of denying yourself. From the moment our ancestors arrived on the American soil we have been demeaned, humiliated and they tried to destroy us. So it should not come as a surprise that self hatred is embedded in many, and deeply.
