(ThyBlackMan.com) After watching President Elect Trumps News conference, I realize more than ever there is cause to be uneasy about the direction of the country. It is a good thing to have hope, and to keep the faith that everything will be okay. However, while we are keeping our faith we should work and prepare like the worst could happen. It is understandable that government assistance, in some cases, are a necessity. With that being said we must work diligently towards self-sufficiency. We can’t afford to live from check to check, or barely have enough.
Life is a very unpredictable thing and it is time we come together to make sure we could survive a crisis if one should arise. Buying some of the things we want is cool, but we don’t make it a habit to stockpile first aid supplies, toiletries, or water. We tend to buy these things as we needed them, but it is important that we begin to look ahead and prepare for tomorrow. Starting a small window garden is a good start that can lead to actually growing some of your own food which would lead to less dependency on the grocery stores. Self-sufficiency works best we can come together as a community and make sure our neighbor is cared for. Simply looking out for self is a path to ruin.
As American citizens it can be said we take for granted the terror of war, invasion, destruction…the altering of our way of life. Many of us would fight this notion on all fronts, but it is something that is missing from American history. Unlike some other nations we don’t know what it means to have an all-out invasion on our soil. We don’t know what it means to have to literally fight for our right to exist as a nation. Furthermore, this nation has had depressions and recessions, but given our dependency on technology and certain luxuries what would we do if we were faced with the challenges of those before us. We must be certain that we can come together to weather whatever storm may come our way.
Social media has its positive aspects, but one of the negatives is it hinders proper social development. This becomes a problem when we can’t log on, and we are forced to interact with one another directly. If our country were to go through a dangerous period we would need to be able to organize, communicate and quickly assess both need and danger. There are people that have never spoken to their neighbor that they see every day.
The world is not a peaceful place, and we would be naïve to believe that America is immune to global terror that we see other nations enduring. When we get money it’s important to set some aside not just in the bank, but to have a cash stash somewhere because if all hell breaks loose I doubt the bank will be open. We much do more than be fuss about what’s going on in the country, and world. We must prepare like our life depends on it. Its’s time to make moves that put us ahead in life, and survival.

Marque, what does that have to do with being prepared for emergencies? Christian’s points are valid no matter who is president.
Trump is not against corporate America, he is corporate America. I am surprised how easily he has fooled and distracted so many of you. Over 1/3 his staff is corporate America – millionaires, billionaires and Wallstreet connected. Former corporate CEOs everywhere you turn.
If you don’t know what Trump is doing, let me explain it. he is using misdirection like a magician. He caused a fight between democrats and republicans as well as private citizens all over the country. Meanwhile, while all of you are distracted, Trump is converting Washington into his own personal business and capitalist money machine. He is neither a republican nor a democrat. That is why neither side can figure out what he is doing and why both sides were caught off guard.
WAKE UP PEOPLE and stop falling for the distractions
I forgot to add these. Here are some websites with useful information on how to be prepared for emergencies:

You make some very important points. It is always a good idea to be prepared for unexpected events. Maybe the power will go out, or the heat during a cold spell, or any of a number of other possibilities. Having some basic first aid supplies on hand, along with some candles, extra batteries for the flashlights or lanterns you keep in the closet, and the canned or freeze-dried food on the top shelf of the cupboard, is good common sense. As the saying goes, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
And growing some of your own food is valuable in more ways than one. First, it’s a good way to get fresh vegetables. Second, it’s an enjoyable task all by itself. Third, it’s something that can bring neighbors together as friends. If you have window gardens together, you can exchange tips on growing things. If possible, you can plant a garden in the back yard (if you have your own house) or get together with neighbors to start a community garden. Such a garden can be more than just a place to grow things–the folks who work together on such gardens often talk about other things the community needs, like clean parks for the kids, etc. And since they’re already working together in the garden, they’re more likely to decide to work themselves on some of the other needs of the community than to wait for someone from outside to come and fix things. This is how you grow self-sufficiency and self-respect.
And just as you said, this is face-to-face socializing, with no internet between people. The big problem with the social media is that people are at a distance from each other, and can be rude and extreme in their behavior with no adverse repercussions. Getting people together in person to talk to each other as real, flesh-and-blood individuals, is mandatory for building and maintaining a vibrant community.
