Nevertheless, even most of her diehard fans know little of this amazing singer except what is out there on the tabloids and blogs. Therefore, it is important to set the record straight.
A brief biography
It is only logical that we start from the beginning. Rihanna had the first years of her life in the town of Saint Michael on an island called Barbados, on 20th February the year 1988, as Robyn Rihanna Fenty. She was a normal Caribbean island girl.
She went to Combermere, which was a school that can be the equivalent of a grammar school in the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, her childhood was not without trouble. She had to grown up with a father who was an addict of crack cocaine. Her parents had a rocky marriage, and the finally divorced when she was at the age of fourteen.
Natural talent manifests itself
From an early age, Rihanna showed great interested in the arts and particularly singing and dancing. She began singing to friends and family at parties and events during her pre-teen years. She states that a major reason she started singing was to find a get away from her family troubles. When she was 15, she formed an all-girl group with two of her classmates. She performed at her school talent show and even became a model once in the school. Rihanna continued singing throughout her teen years but only for amusement purposes. Everyone loved her voice and praised her each time she performed for them.
The big break
When she was 15, after forming her girl group, she decided to audition for Evan Rogers, who happened to be a veteran producer. Even though the whole group was auditioning, Rihanna caught Roger’s eye. Later, the producer arranged for the singer to live with him and his wife in Connecticut while cutting a demo of four songs. When it was complete, Rogers began sending it to a number of recording companies. Eventually Def Jam responded after Rihanna auditioning for the then president of the label, Jay-Z.
Album releases
As soon as Def Jam signed her in, she did not waste any time. She began working on her first album, which took three months to complete. She eventually released her first album, Music of The Sun, which sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
The first single from the album that brought her to fame was ‘Pon de Replay’. She then began working on her second album ‘A Girl Like Me’, which was released on April 2006. The album was certified platinum by RIAA. A year later, she released her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, which gave us hits such as ‘Umbrella’ and ‘Shut Up and Drive’.
In 2009, Rihanna released her fourth studio album and was also satisfied platinum. November 2010 saw the release of the singer’s fifth studio album ‘Loud’, which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200, and sold over 200,000 units in the first week. Towards the end of 2011, she released her sixth album ‘Talk that Talk’, which saw her broke several records including the fastest solo artist to attain 20 Hot 100 TOP ten singles.
