(ThyBlackMan.com) Talk show host Bill Maher is a huge fan of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul’s foreign policy views. Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) is the only GOP candidate that convinces him to “rise out of my chair and applaud,” the talk show host recently admitted during a panel discussion on the current group of candidates for the Republican presidential nomination.
When one of Mr. Maher’s panelists speculated that Ron Paul’s position on the legalization of drugs is the only reason that the talk show host likes the Texas Republican, Bill Maher denied that accusation. “He’s the one who is, really, in my heart on foreign affairs, not Barack Obama,” Bill Maher said on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday night.
Ron Paul has been both criticized and cheered for his foreign policy position on Iran. During an appearance on FOX News Channel’s “American Live” Friday, Ron Paul said that the U.S. should “emphasize” with Iran after one its nuclear scientists was killed in a car bomb. “This is an act of terrorism and we should empathize with them,” Ron Paul posited.
Ron Paul’s non-confrontational approach to handling Iran’s nuclear program have put him at odds with some of the other Republican presidential candidates, including former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. At a FOX News debate last August, Rick Santorum criticized Ron Paul for being too soft on Iran. “Iran is not Iceland, Ron Paul. Iran is a country that’s been at war with us since 1979. Iran is a country that’s killed more men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan than the Iraqis and the Afghanistanis have,” Rick Santorum said.
Despite Ron Paul’s position on Iran, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton said he “would seriously consider serving in a Department of Defense under Ron Paul, if asked.” Mr. Bolton’s comment was recently made on Fox News Channel’s “Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano,” according to Mr. Napolitano’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Less than a month ago, Mr. Bolton expressed a dissimilar position on FOX News Channel’s “Sean Hannity Show.” “A candidate like Ron Paul whose foreign policy is, if anything, worse than the Obama administration is apparently leading in Iowa according to some polls, it just gives me great concern,” Mr. Bolton argued. 2012 Ron Paul is on the move.
