(ThyBlackMan.com) There is a saying from my favorite movie Dune  about fear. The best two lines go, “Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.” This is absolutely true in entrepreneurship. I know many people with great ideas, great talent, and great entrepreneurship potential who never do it. Because of fear. My acronym for fear is:

Fear Equals Agony and Regret

So today I will give you three key tips to killing fear.

I. Surround yourself with people who are successful at what you want to do.  If you have friends or acquaintances who are successful entrepreneurs hang out with them more. Join business trade groups, and business network groups to be around people who have leaped the hurdle of start up fear.

II. Get a business mentor.  Places like SCORE can provide you with a business mentor for free. These are individuals who will help guide you and encourage you throughout the startup process. There is nothing like knowing someone with skills has your back.

III. Grab a business partner.  Often the things we are scared to do on our own we are more willing to do with a partner. Now make sure you pick someone who has the same desires, passion and commitment as you of course. But if you can’t get over your start up fear on your own, find someone who will partner with you to walk hand and hand through the darkness.

“Once you get past the mental barriers, you can focus on the core foundations of the business, such as developing a business plan, getting small business insurance, and building a team to support your visions.”

Make no mistake about it. Not facing your fear will leave you having regret and will squander your entrepreneurship potential. So face it! Fight it! Kill it!
