(ThyBlackMan.com) It appears that disrespecting the president by referring to him as a sex organ on national television is not a seriously punishable offense. Mark Halperin, the man who referred to President Obama as a “d*ck”, is now back in action on Morning Joe. So, you can trust that when you watch the show, you’re not exactly getting objective analysis….instead, your political analyst (not to mention the editor-at-large at Time Magazine), has no problem calling the president a d*ck if he feels inspired to do so.
Halperin’s remark adds to a consistent national chorus of disrespect that has been shown to our nation’s first black president. This week, GOP Rep. Doug Lamborn had to apologize for comparing President Obama to a “tar baby,” (an historically derogatory term used toward African Americans). There are numerous other instances in which lawmakers and pundits have referred to the president in a racially-slanderous way and even made jokes about his assassination. It started with Liz Trotta on Fox News, who said that she would kill both Osama bin Laden and Barack Obama “if we could.”
The presidency of Barack Obama has been an interesting social experiment for all of America. It shows us that we are not nearly as sophisticated as we’d like to believe, and that racism is alive and well in this country. When you compound this with the backlash that African Americans have received due to Obama’s election, you realize that we are simply re-living an experience that is descended from the reaction of the south to the end of slavery. That is when the KKK grew in power, and when African Americans around the country suffered harsh penalties for their advancement in our society.
Today, we see that black wealth has dropped to levels we haven’t seen in over 30 years. Black unemployment is over 16 percent. Black people were thrown under the bus during the recent debt ceiling negotiations and have had our issues ignored almost completely since the 2008 presidential election. Millions of African Americans are suffering the same disrespect on the job and in their communities that President Obama is experiencing in the White House. Even MSNBC, the network that represents the liberals who claim to befriend us, has allowed Halperin to continue on the job as if nothing happened. That, my friends, is what it means to have second-class citizenship in America.

Look, I am the first person to call someone out when I think they’re being racist, but we need to look at the WHOLE picture. I actually watch Morning Joe every morning and was watching the morning that Mark made this comment. It is a much more balanced program in comparison to others on the air. This was not a racist comment. Derogatory, yes, but not racist. However, this is NOT the first time I’ve heard a president be called something other than his name. As a middle-aged, black female, I felt Mark’s punishment was fair. We need to stop crying wolf everytime somebody calls one of our black leaders a name. White leaders are called out of their name publicly, too. My people need to get thicker skins and stop calling everything racist because the president is black. I think we often jump on the bandwagon when someone presents commentary like this without investigating ourselves. Please, at least look at a program before you judge. If we don’t take the initiative to listen to both sides of the issue for ourselves, we cannot be effective in these conversations.
I think Jesse Jackson threating to cut Obama’s private parts off was much worse. I didn’t see a great backlash from the black community about that. Michael Moore called Bush a lying conniver – nothing happened to him. I’m not defending, just showing how we, as a people are way too sensitive, especially on this particular comment by Mark.
Now, as for the politican from Colorado that called Obama a tarbaby…he needs to be put out of office.
DR.Boyce could you lead an initiative to contact MSNBC MORNING JOE? I would be happy to follow up with correspondence if I have contact info.and yes it is an outrage for Halprin to b back and now buchanan with his *boy*comment.
If anyone out there believe that all the comments about the President isn’t racist, then you have no knowledge of history. Have you not notice that he is seldom called President Obama on MSNBC and CNN, which cause the local media to follow their lead. If any of those things would have been said about Bush, there would be an FBI investigating. Joe Scarborough is a good ole Southerner from Pensacola, FL. His kind believe that they can be as racist as they want to be.
do you think if mark halperin called george bush a d**k he would be allowed back on msnbc and this is suppose to be the most progressive news show compared to the others give me a break
No big surprise here, Joe Scarborough has always been a creep and just a MSNBC version of Fox News annoucer.
