(ThyBlackMan.com) Is Watts the new Flint, Michigan? This is not an academic, or hyperbole question. It’s potentially a deadly serious issue to thousands of Watts residents and especially those in the sprawling Nickerson Gardens Housing project.

Put simply, test after test by L.A. city officials have shown that the lethal lead content in the resident’s water potentially reaches serious health hazard levels. The worst part is that city health officials still say they need to conduct yet another round of testing. So, it’s no exaggeration to utter the name Flint and the situation that plagued that city’s residents with their chemically contaminated water in the same breath as Watts.

A decade ago, millions of Americans were shocked at the appalling water contamination that the mostly poor Black residents of Flint, Michigan faced. They suffered the prospect of deadly risk of disease and death from unsafe drinking water.

The double shock was that city, state and even federal officials knew about the deadly drinking water crisis but dithered, delayed, made excuses, and pointed fingers. Meanwhile the residents got sicker and sicker from the tainted water.

The grim reality that is confirmed in countless studies by local health departments and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is that there is a gaping disparity in safe water in homes and neighborhoods. The reason is race. The EPA has repeatedly found that poor, impoverished Black and Hispanics are far more likely to drink chemically contaminated water than middle class, upscale whites. One particularly damning report by an environmental research group is entitled Watered Down Justice. The group examined EPA data on safe water in communities for a three-year period from 2016 to 2019. It found that many local agencies for years blatantly violated the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Act. This mandates safe drinking water in communities of color.

Worse, when the violations were pointed out local officials often dragged their feet for months even years before fully implementing safe water standards in these communities. The report noted that unsafe drinking water and a lack of standard enforcement affected more than 0ne hundred and thirty million Americans. Again, the disproportionate number of those were Black, Hispanic, and Native Americans both in the cities and in rural areas.

The foot dragging by officials has lethal consequences. Chemically tainted water is consistently linked directly to the increased risk of cancer, compromised fertility, developmental effects, serious infections, and many more health maladies. The damaging effect of unsafe water poses the greatest peril to children, the physically and health challenged, and older persons.

“There is no question that Black and brown communities disproportionately suffer from a lack of access to clean safe water, more so than white communities,” EPA Assistant Administrator Radhika Fox, who runs the agency’s water office, noted, “There are a lot of factors that have led to this, but underinvestment is a huge problem.”

The Biden administration took due note of the danger. In 2022, it allocated more than fifty billion dollars for water infrastructure improvement. The problem though was getting the money for safe water improvement to the neighborhoods that were most affected, namely Black, and Hispanic neighborhoods.

The money had to go through a cumbersome and time-consuming process before release. The states had to apply on behalf of the targeted cities. Approval of the funding would take even more time. In the meantime, the water faucets in the homes of residents in impoverished communities continued to spew chemically contaminated water and the health hazards that this posed continued to mount.

The lead danger in the water in the taps of Watts residents directly parallels that of Flint and Jackson, Mississippi. Officials, after acknowledging the potential crisis, took months to act. They issued flowery statements expressing concern, promised that funds would be allocated for water system upgrade and installing filtration systems, and as in Watts assured that there would be more tests run to determine how unsafe the lead levels in the water were,

Again, while all this posturing and maneuvering for public effect happened as expected the residents continued to be exposed to the perilous water.

There was yet another cautionary note in the potential similarity between the unsafe water crisis in Flint and Watts. Many residents bemoaned their initial lack of action in demanding that local and state officials take real proactive action to fix the problem. As one Flint resident noted, “Clean water is a basic human right, and we shouldn’t have to argue about it. The earth couldn’t survive without water, how much more so can a human being survive without water?”

That’s a question that was repeatedly asked in Flint, Jackson, and dozens of other poor communities that must drink unsafe water. It’s a question that now must be asked by Watts residents who face the same potential danger. Los Angeles city officials have a duty and obligation to give them the same answer they would give residents on L. A’s Westside and other upscale areas in L.A. that never have to worry about disease or a life-threatening hazard from tainted water.

(ThyBlackMan.com) We are witnessing a historic counterrevolution after Trump’s victory, far different from his first election in 2016.

The orthodox and the supposed scripted future are now suspect. And they are likely to be dethroned — from the trivial to the existential.

Critics claim Trump has no mandate to stage such a counterrevolution. They argue that he did not win 51 percent of the popular vote or achieve a Reaganesque landslide in the Electoral College.

Yet all the initiatives he advanced and won on polled landslide public approval.

Despite being the target of Democrat lawfare for years, a defiant Trump promised to end an open border, massive illegal immigration, rising crime, and soaring prices. He pledged to slash government and its administrative state, terminate racial and gender identity politics, and restore deterrence abroad.

The people overwhelmingly wanted those messages but were waiting for an unorthodox messenger who would actually deliver them.

The Trump messenger reassured weary citizens that they were not crazy.

Instead, they had good cause to be sick of being talked down to by a media, academic, bureaucratic, and political elite that never earned nor deserved such self-appointed status.

The FBI, the CIA, and the DOJ, not the massive crowds at rallies, were the ones truly out of control.

President Joe Biden was really suffering from dementia, not those who said he was.

Criminals with weapons are as deleterious to society as law-abiding citizens deprived of them.

It is not a thought crime to believe there are two sexes — not three or four or more. No one should be forced to buy an electric vehicle, disconnect their natural gas stove, or submit to racial or gender indoctrination sessions.

Americans should speak their minds and write what they wish without worry of being censored, blacklisted, ostracized, doxxed, or shadow-banned — or jailed.

Campuses are not oases of tolerance, disinterested inquiry, and free expression. They instead increasingly became overpriced indoctrination centers that shred the Constitution and graduate indebted students who know less — but are far more biased — than when they enrolled.

Trump and his MAGA appointees promise to slash over a trillion dollars from the annual federal budget, disbanding entire agencies.

Is the objection that an ever-expanding government — $37 trillion in debt, running nearly $2 trillion in annual deficits — should keep growing?

Trump pledges to reform the Pentagon — ending DEI Pentagon commissars and revolving-door corporate generalship.

He vows to hold the 4-star class responsible for the catastrophe in Afghanistan and to reenlist soldiers who were driven out due to draconian vaccination mandates or woke intolerance. Trump envisions changing the entire system of military procurement.

Does the status quo object on the grounds that our military leadership has been winning our wars abroad?

Is the Pentagon currently awash in eager recruits?

Has it stockpiled a huge surplus of shells, bombs, and rockets?

Trump promises historic deportations of the 12 million who destroyed the southern border and surged in without health or criminal audits.

Trump vows to rescue swamped social services and stop crimes by illegal alien felons.

Is that really worse than the Biden administration’s original massive importation of millions of illegal aliens, empowered by drug-importing and sex-trafficking cartels?

Who are the culpable? Those flagrantly mocking and breaking the law, or those vowing to enforce it?

Trump says he will deter enemies without bogging America down in “endless wars” — and did just that in his first four years as president.

Is the current alternative preferable to convincing enemies that there are few consequences to their aggression, sandbagging allies like Israel, or feeding the war in Ukraine without any plan of either winning or ending it?

The Trump revolution is also cultural and social. Shared class interests have replaced race, ethnicity, and gender chauvinism.

Athletes of all races are no longer taking a knee in protest of America’s supposed systemic racism during the national anthem. Sometimes they celebrate their scoring by doing honorific Trump YMCA/golf-swing dances on national television.

Enlistments to help craft the Trump counterrevolution are not always predicated on degrees, conventional resumes, or past lengthy government service. Race and gender do not determine qualifications alone. Nor does class.

Common sense, successful lives outside of government, and a desire to end the current nonsense count instead as better prerequisites.

For Trump, party identification, titles, and traditional prestige matter less as he is surrounded by an ideologically diverse cadre including Elon Musk, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Dana White, Tulsi Gabbard, and Joe Rogan.

The country no longer must apologize incessantly for its past or present but can move on — content that it need not be perfect to be better than all the alternatives.

The age of flashing pronouns, renaming iconic landmarks, statue toppling, trashing the dead, vandalizing with impunity the campus library, or spouting antisemitic venom is passing.

So, another name for the Trump counterrevolution is a simple return to sanity.

(ThyBlackMan.com) “Jesus is Lord!” somebody shouted at a Kamala Harris political rally before the election.

She paused her speech, looked over at whomever had spoken the words, and replied, “Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally.”

Those are probably the only true words Kamala Harris spoke during the entire campaign. No believer in true Christianity is welcome at a Democratic Party rally, or as a member of that party, unless, of course, they are willing to give up Jesus as their Lord and replaced Him with the Democratic Party, as every “Christian” Democrat has done.

Occasionally, Democrats—Leftists—let the cat out of the bag about what they really believe. Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, among some other Democrats, claim to be good Catholics, but this is a farce, pure hypocrisy, and everybody knows it. The Democratic Party has become decidedly anti-Christian, but actually, anti all religion, as their support of anti-Semitism this year clearly demonstrates. They don’t like Israel, because they don’t like Jews, because they hate Judeo-Christianity, and they hate America and its Founding Fathers because the country was built upon a Judeo-Christian foundation. “That book [the Bible] is the rock on which this Republic rests,” Andrew Jackson said. “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other” (John Adams). The Democrats loathe those men with a passion.

Democrats aren’t especially fond of Islam, either, but when they need votes, they’ll kiss anybody’s behind—well, almost anybody’s. “Jesus is Lord” was NOT welcome at a Kamala Harris rally because Jesus is plainly NOT the Lord of the Democratic Party.

That so much of the Democrats’ agenda is anti-Christian is clear, especially to those who attempt to be faithful to that religion. A political party that supports abortion on demand, homosexuality and “pride month,” same-sex marriage, transgenderism, the mutilation of children for the pleasure of sexual deviants, drag queens and the teaching of perverted sex to children, the lawlessness of illegals and other criminals in the country (and especially Democratic Party-run cities)—these matters are not in harmony (pardon the understatement) with the true teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament. Or with Moses’s law in the Old Testament, either. This form of degenerate, perverted “democracy” is a major reason the Muslims in the Middle East don’t want America anywhere near them.

The Left’s multi-headed “god” is Karl Marx and other such atheistic, anti-religious philosophers. That Marxism is a major foundation of modern Leftism and is anti-religious is easily provable by its actions and words. They flat said so. They don’t want “Jesus is Lord” at their political rallies. Or Jews on their college campuses.

Here are a few quotes from Marx and Lenin:

Marx: “My object is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism.” “Communism begins where atheism begins.” “The first requirement for the happiness of the people is the abolition of religion.” “Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience.” (Marxism is not only anti-religion, it’s anti-history, which is also clear in the modern Democratic Party.) “As socialism grows, religion will disappear. Its disappearance must be done by social development, in which education must play a part.” “Religion is the impotence of the human mind to deal with occurrences it cannot understand.”

That’s fairly clear.

And here are three jewels from Vladimir Lenin: “Our program necessarily includes the propaganda of atheism.” “There can be nothing more abominable than religion.” “Marxism has always regarded all religions and churches, and each and every religious organization, as instruments of bourgeois reaction that serve to defend exploitation and befuddle the working class.” That man was, at least in regards to Christianity, a complete ignoramus. He knew absolutely nothing about pure New Testament Christianity or Mosaic Judaism, for that matter. He swallowed Marxism whole, and tweaked it with his own moronic philosophy. But this is what ideology does, and Marxism is pure ideology, a human creation, totally devoid of truth and divorced from historical reality and economic law. It is why, incidentally, the Democratic Party today is so historically ignorant and convoluted, and that nearly everything these people believe and say is a lie.

Oh, just for kicks, I’ll add this quote from Lenin: “The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses.” I suspect Joy Reid and Jake Tapper have absolutely no clue that they are nothing more than “useful idiots,” for this is exactly—and all—that they are: collective propagandists for the Marxist Democratic Party.

No, Jesus is definitely not welcome at a Kamala Harris rally—or any other religion besides whatever the Democratic Party elite tells you to believe. And incidentally, when Kamala made her “you’re at the wrong rally” comment, she received loud, long, and sustains applause and cheers. It’s what the Democratic Party, from top to bottom, now believes. It’s the most dangerous enemy we face.

Most of us want the same things: a better life for our children, safe communities, good schools, freedom. That we might have different perspectives on what some of these things mean does not make for insurmountable differences. Instead, it begs for conversation and ultimately understanding of why we see things differently. Because whether our ancestors arrived as settlers or immigrants, were enslaved or were among this land’s Indigenous peoples, what we have in common is we are all in the same boat now. Whether we sink or float, it will be together. And to truly thrive, we must heal our divisions. Within our own families is as good a place as any to start.

(ThyBlackMan.com) With the holiday season approaching, it seems that our country could not be more divided. That division has been perhaps the main overarching topic of our national conversation in recent years. And it has taken root within many of our own families.

Blood may be thicker than water, but for many American families it seems like it is not as thick as politics. Or, if not politics specifically, then the cultural rifts that have been widened and inflamed within our political debate.

Maybe our national healing can start with our families, around the holiday table.

There are mixed views within my own family, just like there are in millions of American families. And within my family there are stories of division and stories of healing.

My family traces its roots in America on my dad’s side back 400 years to Massachusetts – the home of the first Thanksgiving. My mom’s family has also been here the better part of 400 years, but in Virginia and Maryland, tracing back to that area’s earliest white settlers and their African slaves.

When my parents fell in love as young civil rights activists in Baltimore and got married, their marriage was illegal in Maryland. Their relationship was taboo at the time. My father’s family disowned him for marrying a Black woman and he lost his inheritance.

So, I grew up on America’s racial fault line. And learning about my own family’s history has provided an important perspective on the nature of division both within the family itself and the country – our big, messy American family.

Using DNA research to trace my own family’s origins, I discovered that like President Barack Obama, I am distant cousins with former Vice President Dick Cheney. That revelation was interesting. But the revelation that I am also distant cousins with Robert E. Lee was a little harder to swallow. I was the youngest ever national president of the NAACP. He was the Confederate general who essentially fought to preserve the institution of slavery.

The Civil War itself was a conflict that famously divided families. “Brother against brother” is a phrase commonly used to describe those divisions that emerged within many American families, especially in the border states like my home state of Maryland.

And after the Civil War, America’s divisions certainly did not go away. But there are inspiring stories of coming together as well that simply have not been told as much as the stories of division and oppression.

My grandmother’s grandfather was at the center of one of those stories. In the years immediately following Reconstruction, Edward David Bland – who had been born into slavery – led Virginia’s Black Republicans into coalition with former white Confederate soldiers to form a third party that took over the Virginia state government.

How many of us grew up learning that freedmen and the same Confederates that had fought to keep them enslaved actually came together to form a winning political party based on the common desire to save their state’s public schools?

Known as the Readjusters, the bipartisan, multiracial movement won all statewide elected offices and controlled the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1881 to 1885. In that time, they abolished the poll tax and the whipping post, radically expanded Virginia Tech and created Virginia State University, and readjusted the terms of the Civil War debt to save the free public schools and take the state from a financial deficit into a surplus.

That is just one story that illustrates how as a country we have managed to work through our divisions and move forward. We have common ground. We just need to look for it. And it should not be that difficult to search for and find that common ground within our own families.

Families can be great composites of many different backgrounds and experiences, just like America itself. And just like America, there can also be room for different viewpoints within families.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Based on what we were being told in the days leading up to the 2024 U.S. presidential election that the two candidates were in a virtual tie and it might take days after Nov. 5 to determine the winner, the unanticipated blowout by President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris enabled the election to be called in the former’s favor within hours after the polls closed. Never before in the history of presidential election polls have we seen so many pollsters be so wrong. For Republicans, who also won the House and Senate, it was as if a miracle had occurred. Were Tom Zimmer still alive today, he would probably be thinking to himself, “I told you it would happen.”

Who was Zimmer?

Zimmer was a Catholic American who left the U.S. in the early 1970s to live in a town on the east coast of Italy. There he dedicated his life to his religion, co-authoring a prayer book that sold millions of copies and attending Mass several times a day. He lived as a hermit near the Basilica of the Holy House in Loreto, Italy, believed to enshrine the house where Mary – the mother of Jesus – is said to have lived. Zimmer issued several prophecies during his lifetime, becoming known as the Hermit of Loreto. In 2008, he returned to the U.S. to die, passing away in 2009 at age 83.

Zimmer made a fascinating prophecy in 1983. It was about a man he claimed would serve as president for two terms and would be used by God to bring America back to Him. Interestingly, while the man was identified by name 41 years ago and was well-known back then, he had never demonstrated any intention of entering into the political arena.

However, a month after that man – Donald Trump – entered the Oval Office in 2017, a video was posted by American priest Giacomo Capoverdi on YouTube relating Zimmer’s prophecy. While Trump’s failure to win reelection in 2020 raised some doubts about him being a two-term president, Trump’s 2024 landslide reelection victory removed those doubts about Zimmer’s prophecy.

Sadly, Zimmer was right about America moving away from God. Many of the Christian values that motivated our Founding Fathers to risk their lives in establishing a nation in which all were free to practice their religions have been targeted as offensive in 21st century America. A 2020 article provided background on how this has happened:

“For decades, secular humanists have been working to remove God from all aspects of life in America. Unfortunately, they have enjoyed a measure of success. With rare exceptions, prayer in schools, before high school football games, and at the beginning of public meetings is a thing of the past. Displaying Bible verses on the walls of your offices is now taboo. Recently a Christian with a pro-life license plate – a plate issued by the state of Florida – was told to remove it from her car or she could not park in the lot where she worked. There are many other examples of how secular humanists are pushing God out of our lives, but perhaps the most telling example is what we see happening in politics.

“We see Supreme Court nominees and political candidates have their lives torn apart by unproven accusations, innuendo, rumors, and outright lies. Paid-thugs, posing as university students, incite riots to prevent Christians or conservatives from speaking. Members of Congress are stalked by protesters yelling profanity and making threats. Pro-life marchers are attacked by abortion advocates. Political candidates, including minorities, are labeled ‘racists,’ ‘bigots,’ and ‘misogynists’ for failing to toe the line of liberal orthodoxy. Campaign rallies devolve into fistfights between supporters of competing candidates. In short, politics in America has devolved into a gutter sport characterized by excessive partisanship, character assassination, personal animosity, venomous discourse, increasing polarization, name calling, smear campaigns, and even violence.”

The above article focused on how schools and colleges have transformed from Christian to godless institutions. By way of example, a school considered by many to be America’s flagship of higher education, Harvard University, was originally established to train ministers while that mission has long ago now been forgotten.

During our Founding Fathers’ time, 99% of Americans identified as Christian, decreasing to 71% today, with a 12 point drop occurring between 2009-2019. In the two decades between 2000-2021, the percentage of adults regularly attending religious services dropped from 42% to 30%. By 2023, the percentage of Americans unaffiliated with any religion increased from 2% in 1948 to 22%. A Pew Research Center study determined that if things continue along these lines, Christians may not be a majority in the U.S. by 2070.

Over the past four years of President Joe Biden’s term, little has been done to bring America closer to God. In fact, his FBI was weaponized to go after Catholics, spying on traditionalists from coast to coast. And a 2022 study cites the Democratic Party as a prime example of a group that has transitioned away from religion.

It is no wonder that Trump, during his campaign, promised to trigger a revival of Christian power if reelected. Catholics clearly saw a Trump presidency as ushering in an era of religious rebirth, overwhelmingly casting their votes for him as evidenced by the 56% to 41% margin he tallied. Boosting Trump’s Catholic support was Harris’ naive display of anti-Catholic bias, evidenced by her admonishment of students at one of her rallies who shouted “Christ is King” that they were at the “wrong rally.”

It is incredible that Zimmer prophesied not only a two-term presidency for Trump – who now will become the only president since Grover Cleveland to serve two non-consecutive terms – but also to win reelection by promising to bring America closer to God. While Republican supporters are pleased with a Trump “miracle,” somewhere “up there” Zimmer undoubtedly views it as God’s.

The campaign, a collaborative effort between communities, businesses, religious entities, and youth, aims to report violent crimes by promoting unity, accountability, and positive change within cities.

Recently featured in Black Enterprise, Black News, Texas Metro news and others, The Fathers and three sons tech team as a passionate advocate for community engagement and youth empowerment is thrilled to be submitting their support and interest in using their community owned platforms in this meaningful initiative.

Gregory Barnard says ” We are not reinventing the wheel here, we are simply providing a service inviting every resident in each city to twenty six communities to business owned platforms using profits to assist the community needs while holding everyone accountable that participates.

It shows us if we are truly seeking solutions or just talking.

Our other option is keep complaining as we continue to become more divided as a country by race and gender, waiting on the government to solve community needs when they have already shown us through constant bickering it starts with community.

The campaign’s focus is on reporting violent crimes and virtual education in our Cities by promoting community collaboration between business, religious entities, and youth with accountability that truly resonates with our values. We believe that fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility can pave the way for positive change and create a safer, more vibrant environment for all residents.

The campaign strives to uplift communities by promoting local businesses and religious institutions through a virtual directory, offering real-time interaction, support, and networking opportunities. Additionally, a virtual conference platform similar to zoom, only you can use 24/7 365 fostering connectivity and knowledge-sharing.

The Community to Business and Religious Branding aspect of the campaign presents an innovative way to strengthen bonds within local communities. Through advertising collaborations, businesses and religious entities can now engage with their congregation and communities while supporting creativity through commercial competitions. Additionally, members can now support each other’s businesses and network in real time, fostering a strong community of like-minded individuals.

Our goal is to promote each registered business by distributing over 100 giveaways to the community daily. With costs as low as $25 per week, and even less for some, community members can endorse businesses through daily social media posts.
If you want to keep your locs healthy and strong, there are a few things that Mz Lady Lox recommends.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Locs have been around for centuries. While some claim that they descend from ancient Greece, others swear that they were first spotted in Egypt. But if there is one thing we know for certain, it is that they are a big part of African culture to this day. From Nigeria to Kenya, they have symbolized different aspects of culture and different periods of history. For instance, in Kenya, they were a popular fixture among freedom fighters within the Kikuyu tribe during the fight for independence.

And while this particular hairstyle may have come to be by accident at the time, it is still quite popular in Kenya and Africa as a whole. In many ways, locs symbolize peace, authenticity, rebirth, and spirituality. So it’s not surprising that they are a great part of African American culture with celebrities like Wiz Khalifa and Jaden Smith rocking them from time to time.

Introducing Mz Lady Lox

As more and more African Americans embrace locs, there is one household name that has stood the test of time, especially in Atlanta – Mz Lady Lox . As a practicing loctician for over 20 years, she has learned a lot about the power of locs, their history, and the spirituality behind them. Like many young women, she originally thought the best career plan for her was to join corporate America and work her way up. And so she got her first job as a fraud investigator at the Bank of America.

It was only when she moved to Atlanta that she considered doing hair full-time; a choice that ultimately changed the trajectory of her life. Not only did she get her first hairstylist job but she also got to work with top brands like Jamaican Mango & Lime, Bronner Brothers, and Taliah Waajid. She has done it all – she has been a hair model, stylist, brand ambassador, and platform artist.

Her qualifications

In the spirit of continuous learning, Mz Lady Lox has earned practicing credentials from the Hogan Institute of Cosmetology. What’s more? She has both a natural braiding license and an instructional certification from Virginia-based SBC Braiding Academy. No matter how you look at it, Mz Lady Lox is a professional through and through.

Locs and overcoming fear

While Mz Lady Lox looks like the epitome of confidence and self-actualization, things weren’t so clear when she was younger. Believe it or not, she gave up on hair for a while when she was a teenager, even though she has loved it since she was a little girl. But after a while in the corporate world, she came back and slowly faced her fears, even becoming an instructor at one of the schools from which she graduated.

Suffice to say, the more time she has spent doing locs, the freer and more confident she has become. That’s why she is really passionate about empowering people to chase after their dreams and use her experience as an example.

Locs and wellness

If there is one thing that Mz Lady Lox believes, it is that the health of your locs is dependent on your overall health and wellness. As such, she encourages a holistic approach to hair care. Having learned at the feet of great hair professionals such as Thando Kafele, Maria Thompson, and Malaika Tamu Cooper, she is a great believer in the power of a natural health regimen over hair health.

This has not only helped her properly advise her clients and mentees but also informs her own loc journey. It’s no wonder that she has been growing her own locs for over 20 years now.

Locs and spirituality

As anyone who has ever heard Mz Lady Lox speak will tell you, she sees locs as more than just a hairstyle. To her, it is an expression and celebration of what it means to have nappy hair. It signifies the beauty of accepting all of that God created you to be and wear it with pride and grace.

Needless to say, her loc journey is greatly intertwined with her spiritual journey. In fact, for her, these two journeys began at around the same time – after having her daughter. In many ways, it was her experience with pregnancy and childbirth that triggered her yearning for something greater than her. It is this that inspired her to install her locs, even within a corporate job – a space where a lot of African Americans are still struggling to feel comfortable with their natural hair.

It’s no wonder that she believes that there is a certain kind of consciousness that comes with the decision to loc your hair and that it comes with a level of self-acceptance and love, regardless of what others think. Ultimately, Mz Lady Lox believes in authenticity, knowing one’s self, and being strong in one’s self.

Locs and healing

Through her loc journey, Mz Lady Lox has not only found her own healing but has also contributed to the healing of others. As a survivor of physical, mental, and emotional abuse, she seeks to help and inspire those that have or are still going through the same experience. This has allowed her to connect with some of her clients more deeply and create a bigger impact in her community.

Locs and women’s empowerment

All you have to do is hear how Mz. Lady Lox speaks to see how passionate she is about empowering women. She believes it is important for women to have agency over their own hair, bodies, and lives. And while this may sometimes start with getting locs, it should spiral to all aspects of their life.

Mz Lady Lox’s work

Truth be told, Mz Lady Lox is more than a loctician. She is an educator, speaker, and businesswoman. Her salon, Unique Naturalz, is one of the most highly-rated ones in Atlanta. Also, she educates stylists and consumers through shows like Khembe’s Return To Your Roots, Kansas City Natural Hair Show, and Premiere Hair Show.

It is, therefore, no wonder that she has been featured in several magazines including XXL, Vibe Magazine, Braid Game, Taji Mag, The Source, and Sophisticate’s Black Hairstyles.

Mz Lady Lox’s top locs maintenance advice

If you want to keep your locs healthy and strong, there are a few things that Mz Lady Lox recommends. First of all, shampoo your locs every 2 to 3 weeks and use a light conditioner. This will keep them clean and prevent buildup. Secondly, always ensure your locs dry well to avoid mildew and odor.

If things have already started going south, don’t worry – soaking your locs in apple cider vinegar will clear all that out. Also, oil your scalp three times a week and spray some oil on your locs just as regularly. This will keep your locs shiny and healthy all through the week.

Finally, never try to color your locs at home – always seek out a licensed cosmetologist to do this for you.

And if you’re ever in Atlanta, feel free to book a consultation with Mz Lady Lox herself. Visit her website to book a time slot on StyleSeat or connect with her on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about her services. And remember, wear your crown with poise and always keep your chin up – you are royalty!

Power Couple Releasing New Music "We Are One".

(ThyBlackMan.com) The newest couple on the gospel scene, David and Tiffany Spencer, releases their new single “We Are One.” The single will be available on January 15, 2021, on all digital outlets. The release date is also Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday. The song is a reminder that King’s dream can be a reality. If we remember that we are one, we can get to the Promised Land together.

“We Are One” is a battle cry that we should continue to labor together until we realize King’s dream. “I enjoyed recording this song, and I hope listeners will embrace the message,” Tiffany said. “Our goal is to help people move past divisiveness by singing along with us- We Are One.”

2020 Elections brought out the best and worse in people. Voters on both sides of the aisle were very passionate and rightfully so. “We have to be careful not to let passion turn into hate towards our brothers and sisters who may not agree with our political stance,” David said. “Our differences do not have to divide us.”

The new single “We Are One” is riding the momentum of the couple’s recent successes.

“Gonna Make It,” the couple’s break out single, has been featured on radio stations around the country, charting as high as #22 on the Gospel Internet Radio BDS chart for airplay. The duet’s album “One Touch” was named the 2020 Kingdom Image Award Best Album of the year and won a 2020 Rhythm of Gospel Award for Best Packaging.

“It was such a huge honor and privilege to get the call four years ago to produce a few tracks for David and Tiffany’s acclaimed project, One Touch. Having worked with many versatile artists, I found working with them allowed me to take music production further without boundaries,” said Chris Adams, CEO of VonJoie Music. “Their chemistry, bond, and anointing made the records shine.”

David and Tiffany’s vocals are featured on records with Kim Cash Tate, Bryon Walker, Sheri Jones Moffett, Will Harris Fellowship Chorale, JaShawna Bellamy, and many more projects. James Patrick Stuart, Emmy Award Nominee, featured the couple’s “soultry vocals” on his record “Can You Feel Me,” which he performed on ABC’s General Hospital.

David and Tiffany Spencer, high school sweethearts, met during choir rehearsal at Lumberton Senior High. They are now happily married with three children, Daveah, David Jr., and Amiyah. Tiffany is a music educator at Spring Hill Middle School in Scotland County. David serves as the Minister of Music at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, in Bennettsville, SC.

(ThyBlackMan.com) “Can You Feel Me?” a song written by James Patrick Stuart will be featured on ABC’s General Hospital on Thursday, August 20. When Valentin, played by Stuart, takes the stage at the 2020 Nurses Ball, his vocals will be backed up on the track by the gorgeous tones of David and Tiffany Spencer, a gospel duet from North Carolina. “ You won’t see them, but you sure will hear ‘em,” Stuart said on his Facebook page.

David and Tiffany, successful recording artists in their own right, recently began recording backing vocals for other artists from their home studio. As freelancers, their vocals have been featured on over 500 songs since they began offering their service last year. Stuart reached out to the duet using an alias, so the couple did not know who they were collaborating with. When Stuart messaged the couple about the placement in the show, they were surprised and excited.

“When we received the song, I loved everything about it. The writing, production, and vocals were second to none,” David said. “I had no idea we were working with a Daytime Emmy Nominee.”

The pandemic has changed the way artist, and musicians collaborate. Doing sessions remotely and transferring files over the internet is increasing in popularity. It does not replace the magical experience of creating together, but it does offer a safe alternative to get work done during this time.

“Working online, you never really know who is on the other side of the screen,” Tiffany said. “For this reason, we give every project our best effort.”

David and Tiffany Spencer are taking the music industry by storm. “Gonna Make It,” the couple’s break out single has been featured on radio stations around the country, charting as high as #22 on the Gospel Internet Radio BDS Chart for airplay. The duet’s album “One Touch” has been nominated for eight 2020 Rhythm of Gospel Awards. The album is also nominated for a 2020 Kingdom Impact Award. Both organizations will announce winners later this year.

Both David and Tiffany were born and raised in Lumberton, NC, but now reside in Laurinburg, NC. Tiffany is a music educator at Spring Hill Middle School in Scotland County. David serves as the Minister of Music at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Bennettsville SC and is the public information specialist for Northeastern Technical College, Cheraw SC. They are happily married with three children, Daveah, David Jr., and Amiyah.
