I loved your article and how fused the well resourced African American community who frequented and settled in as seasonal home owners, though the real heroes of our community are the working class black women who came to the Island and worked the domestic jobs starting in the later 1800's, saved their pennies, nickels, and dimes then made deals to buy the homes that formed our community. Those Ladies welcomed many of our community, arms opened wide, wether one came for work or vacation and provide space in their homes for us to thrive.
Without there efforts, contributions and willingness to preserve their legacy, Martha's Vineyard particularly Oak Bluffs wouldn't be a vibrant center of seasonal Black American homeowners you witness today.
