America is a pluralistic representative democracy with a capitalist economic base that believes in an unequal distribution of available goods and services based on merit. Merit is defined as usefulness to the republic. We believe in an unequal distribution of available goods and services because all citizens do not earn the same pay. The more pay we earn, the more access we gain to available goods and services ( i.e. more pay means that we can buy more things ). This means that some citizens have a better quality of life than others, but we have been taught that all Americans deserve the best possible quality of life that they can get. Some citizens are not happy with their quality of life because the system, as is, does not cause some citizens to live the best quality of life that they can live due to the lack of education,sufficient physicality, or training. These citizens are therefore unhappy. Socialist practices, such as welfare programs, are used to help compensate the inadequacies of our present American way of life.
