It was hard to hear any rock/soul/blues music on UK radio back then. The BBC only had a couple of music programmes and they generally played Sinatra, Nat Cole, Ella etc. I loved the rock’n’roll that was coming from USA and my original favourites were Fats Domino, Elvis, Buddy Holly etc. However I was completely blown away on hearing Ray Charles’ incredible voice. I walked all over London to try to find any LPs by him. Eventually I paid a small fortune (for those days) to buy an import alum of “Yes Indeed”. Eventually I managed to buy most of his records over the years and I still listen to the great man most weeks.
