Let me into your house, and I will clearly tell you what you “value”. Most Americans value “tangible physical things ” instead of that which is ” intangible, metaphysical, religious otherworldly thought”. The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, including the whole of the U.S. Constitution, and its Amendments which helps to define the extent of our ” American existentialism “( i.e. American sense of freedom ) should be what “we want” instead of a house cluttered with ” things “. We are ” bling-bling “. We are” expensive things “, and these things are what we vote to achieve, but as we now know,”the ownership of things alone isn’t altogether satisfying to both the soul, and the body. I suggest a “Nicomachean Ethic”by which to measure the degree of American freedom achievable within its pluralistic,representative democracy with a capitalist economic base that believes in an unequal distribution of available goods and services based on merit. Merit is defined as usefulness to the republic.
