My college experience was similar to your high school one. It took me 13 years to earn a bachelor’s because I was working, often full-time, for the entire time, usually taking an evening class or two per semester. During my only two full-time semesters, I was working a full-time midnight shift in a cigarette factory. I was entirely self-supporting. Of course a lot of my fellow students didn’t work at all, and believe me, I was jealous of them at the time. But I honestly believe that a working student is going to learnt as much when they’re working as when they’re sitting in class. I’m trying to avoid sounding like I’m bragging, but working students come out of it better educated. Just my opinion, of course.
