Every “Combat Soldier” knows that there is no love lost between a Commissioned Officer,( i.e. an officer commissioned by Congress ), and a Non-Commissioned Officer( i.e. NCO,soldiers who are promoted from Private to Sergeant or above rank ) in any branch of the U.S. Military because when you are facing death minute-by-minute in combat, the truth comes out. The truth is that no Combat Soldier wants to die. There is no love loss because of differing of opinions in combat. Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz was a U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer. The reasons why there is this conflict of leadership are differing of opinions documented in the Uniform Code of Military Justice ( UCMJ ), and other government documents such as orders to and from a duty station relative to the ” ranks ” of our military entities. Professional Combat Soldiers follow orders,salute each other, and go on about their business. Professional Combat Soldiers sometimes disagree, and fight each other. A Lieutenant can’t bust( i.e. bust is non-judicial punishment ) a Sergeant, he or she can only recommend a bust to higher Command. A Captain can’t bust a Sergeant,he or she can only recommend a bust to higher command. A Major can’t bust a Sergeant, he or she can only recommend a bust to higher command. A Lieutenant Colonel can’t bust a Sergeant, he or she can only recommend a bust to higher Command. Both Commissioned Officer,and Non-Commissioned Officer take orders from higher command, and themselves can give “lawful orders” to those soldiers that he or she out-ranks. A wise Combat Unit Commander seeks the advice of his or her “NONCOMS” frequently while in combat. It is the Non-Commissioned Officer who bears the mental and physical stresses and strains of leadership in combat. NONCOMS make it happen. Being in combat includes the business of dovetailing combat support activities. I would, and have, trusted the Non-Commissioned Officer with my life in combat. I would trust the leadership of the ” SEASONED SOLDIER”, Command Sergeant Major Tim Walz, in combat over that of the anti-Americans Donald Trump, and Ron DeSantis any day or night of the week,month of the year,and all the years of my life but it should be understood that the stresses of combat can, and do break, and kill good men and women. Members of the National Guard get the same training, and varied combat experiences as regular Army soldiers regardless of the branch of service. Active Duty or National Guard, a Command Sergeant Major is a Command Sergeant Major because at some point before Walz’s last promotion, higher command believed that he could do the job of a Command Sergeant Major.
