It was not Abraham Lincoln’s intent to free the chattel slaves,in fact, he did so out of desperation not moral or political considerations. Lincoln simply wanted to win the Civil War because President Abraham Lincoln was up against the southern, intellectually elite and highly educated leaders of the south who were not inclined to ever free the slaves. After several Post-Civil War reconstruction efforts newly freed slaves began their climb towards full American citizenship which was and continues to be interrupted by political elements in our pluralistic democracy. America has never been the ideal America spoken of in our U.S. Constitution, and its Amendments. In fact, American citizens repeatedly demonstrate that they are afraid to ” Let Freedom Ring ” instead preferring the ring of the coins in their pockets, no matter how these coins are obtained, to total American citizen existentialism which the U.S. Constitution, and our capitalist economic system are fully capable of producing if allowed to work properly.
