Years ago I read the books by Isaac Asimov regarding the Bible. I recall his figuring out that the birth of Christ had to be years before \”B.C.\” to have been born in the reign of Herod.
Here is his explanation if it copies from my PDF version of the books correctly:

Herod ascended the throne in 716 a.u.c, that is,
37 b.c. He reigned for thirty-three years, dying in 749 a.u.c. or 4 b.c.
But if that is so, it is impossible for Jesus to have been bom in
753 a.u.c. and still have been bom \”in the days of Herod the king,\”
since Herod had died four years before. If Jesus were born in the time
of Herod then he must have been born no later than 4 b.c.

a.u.c. being the year of the founding of the city of Rome, the way Romans tracked the years.

As far as the month – I went to Israel in October 2021. I travelled all over the area, Palestine, Jerusalem, Dead Sea, and you could walk around in shorts and t-shirts. In much of the country didn\’t appear to get very cold in the winter. Asimov doesn\’t argue the point of the month other than to suggest, as you did, December 25th is the birthday of the sun…….. so………. but he doesn\’t argue against it being later in the year than September or October other than to suggest being with the flocks at night would have meant much shorter days/longer, more cold nights.

Your article has prompted me to read Asimov\’s books again.

Sometimes we spend so much time trying to get to a specific place, or looking for something, that we miss what\’s right next to us or all around us.
Maybe one day we\’ll realize that what we seek and need is all around us if we just open our eyes (and minds).
