A lot of ignorance. The police know what I say is true. The city council knows. The county Sheriff knows. The courts know. You just don’t and don’t expect them to admit the truth if they want new businesses, entertainers and tourists to keep coming to dangerous ATL. Citizens nor any of the above have a clue.

Kasim Reed kept Atlanta in a crime tracking system for his entire term that hid the real crime numbers. It was called UCR. It was created by the FBI in the 1960s. The new system is NIBRS and in fact the newest version of National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) just revised less than a decade ago.

Back then, and even now, depending on how crimes are categorized and recorded, that can affect the crime stats.

Furthermore, there are 12 to 15+ different police departments that operate in Atlanta and the overlapping jurisdictions. When people see Atlanta crime stats that the Atlanta Police Department submitted, those are not the total crime stats for Atlanta. They are only the crime stats that one police department submitted.

The other police departments include Georgia capital police, UU postal police, Marta, police, Georgia World Congress Center police, Morehouse, college police, Clark CAU police, Spelman college police, Atlanta Metropolitan college police, Georgia Tech police, Georgia state university police, Life college police, Fulton county sheriffs office (now patrolling Atlanta city streets), Georgia State Patrol (assisting inside of the city of Atlanta) and overlapping jurisdictions such as Dekalb county PD, city of South Fulton PD, East Point PD, College Park PD and Fulton County Police. Then Fulton County Marshals office has its own numbers. And that’s not all the departments that operate in and around Atlanta. Not metro-Atlanta, actually inside city of Atlanta itself.

Each one submits their own crime stats to the FBI. So in order to get the total crime numbers for Atlanta, a person or agency would have to combine all of the crime stats from all of these departments. That is not what Atlanta police department does.

This is why citizens make uninformed and inaccurate comments. They have no idea what you just read. None. And there is even more roof. But I am not going to do all your homework for you. I will say this, there are several independent private agencies who also track the numbers and know the truth.

This is the crime tracking system the author was taking about, the newest in use. So all you people with your disagreement do not know what the Hell you are talking about.

I agree with the author. Why do you people think the Atlanta Braves are not even in Atlanta anymore? And even the FBI states that most crimes go unreported.
