African American women are American women who should not allow themselves to be compartmentalized away from the mainstream of American matriarchy. Being an American mother has its own inherent problems.America is a pluralistic democracy with a capitalist economic base that believes in an unequal distribution of available goods and services based on merit.Within these political and social systems, black women encounter the self same problems being an American mother as white women who are also being mothers.

There’s never been a such thing as true matriarchy as related to African or black American women. Matrilinal maybe.. black women never had power over black men that has been enforced on a tribal or political level.
