Well I hope that at some point you have room enough in your heart to also be just as afraid for African-American women as you are about yourselves because the fact is that black women are victims of police too. In HUGE numbers there are reports cops selling, raping and murdering black women and girls yet it flies right under the radar. Yet black men seem to have very little to no acknowledgement of this whatsoever. No marches, no protests, no physical protection from “our” men. We get cornered by all men – cops who grin savagely at us and take what they want knowing FULL WELL that we have no worth to this country or even to our own MEN! So they know that if we report them, we won’t be believed or no one will care enough to pursue it. We know it too. We have NO ONE because our own black men don’t care, don’t protect or support us.We sit in silence, crouching in the corners of our own minds having to contend with being violated in what is no different than the centuries we spent being forced into white men’s bed, bearing their rape babies and often times watching even the babies we wanted taken away. Broken with PTSD but still when you need us, what are we doing? When a black man needs someone to bail them out of jail, start a petition, start a protest or march, raise their babies by ourselves and move heaven and earth just for them, we’re always there. But what do we get in return? We get think pieces by black man talking of only their pain as if their women are never victims as well! And frankly bro, I’m tired of having to be the male AND female in this tragic community – providing protection while the only time a black man provides protection, compassion, security and a legitimate home for a woman is when it’s for a white woman! So even though we black women live and thus feel your pain, I for one am tired of reading pieces like this that erase our very existence and make us virtually invisible as if Black Lives Matter is really now a code for Black Men Matter. I’m opting out as your protectors. If you want to keep treating us like we don’t matter then let THEM protect you.
