We practice law not perfect it. Over the years more scientific elements have been added to a supposedly scientific system using empirical scientific practices to help arrive at guilt or innocence.Our legal system makes mistakes, and innocent people improperly represented and or adjudicated are wrongfully sent to prison. With all of its flaws the American judicial system is better than the court of public opinion. Most of the freedoms African Americans enjoy today were as a result of the functioning of the judicial system not public opinion. Given the history of America as it relates to the continual killing of black men and women by white citizens of this country it is better to defend yourself at all cost from those who would take your life, and take your chances in a court of law.
