First and foremost, the African American is an American. America is a great nation worthy of studying scholastically. We need not point toward Africa for guidance. Over the centuries, Africa, nor any of it’s members have organized in an attempt to offer either mental or physical salvation to the descendants of America’s chattel slaves. Many African Americans still periodically dress in African garb not knowing the true sentiments of the African tribe that made these garments. The African American know not whether those Africans love them or hate them. The African American has every right to present themselves to the world as an American, and true believer in a pluralistic democracy with a capitalist economic base who also believes in an unequal distribution of available goods and services based on merit. Educators should found their pedagogy upon guiding our children towards a love of these political principles and social values.
