Newsflash! The push to remove Confederate symbols has nothing to do with Barack Obama’s (or any other black politician’s) failure to ameliorate poverty and crime within the black community. No, the push to remove Confederate monuments from public places has everything to do with the alt-right’s co-optation of these symbols to advance a white male supremacist agenda.

If displaying Confederate symbols was about history, then why don’t the thousands of black men who fought for the Confederacy have commemorative statues? How about the white women who passed as men in order to fight alongside their fathers, brothers, and husbands? Why aren’t the slaves who produced food for the Confederacy not honored with memorials? For that matter, why don’t Union generals like Grant and Sherman have statues in former Confederate states? Didn’t they win?

If this was about preserving “history”, then those Neo-Nazi who murdered that woman in Charlottesville last month (and all his Neo-Nazi cronies who rioted afterwards) would want to preserve all of it. Trust me, they don’t.

Those alt-right guys want nothing more than to have constant reminders of the days when any white man–no matter how low–automatically had more power than any black or any woman. And that’s why all those liberals want them gone.
