(ThyBlackMan.com) Remember when Jeremy Lin came out of nowhere and captivated the sports and pop culture world? Remember when it was alleged fellow New York Knicks teammates Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire were very lukewarm to Lin’s “Linsanity” craze? Remember that year? 2012? Yeah, that was 5 years ago.
The popularity of the Linsanity craze produced media coverage that had for the New York Knicks since the Patrick Ewing era. Lin and the Knicks enjoyed the extra attention received, in which they parlayed his great moments into a playoff bid. But, as time normally does, it reminded us that the things we think are important, are probably not. Lin, perhaps who suffered from the weak behavior exhibited by Anthony and Stoudemire behind the scenes, would move on to the Houston Rockets for two seasons, the Los Angeles
This season for the Nets, Lin is averaging 13.8 points and a shade under five assists per game, right around the numbers he put up in his historic Linsanity season. Lin, although not the same exact player, still has given the Nets some type of hope as they continue through their rebuilding cycle post-Joe Johnson era. Jeremy Lin capped off his impressive five game stretch this past sunday, as he returned to Madison Square Garden leading the Nets to a win. Lin in these past five games have averaged 16.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists as the Nets have won three of those five games.
In general, it’s just a good general feeling to see Jeremy Lin performing at a high level. Just imagine what Lin could have been had Anthony and Stoudemire hadn’t disrupted the chemistry and flow Lin was creating in New York at the time. Or maybe what if Lin didn’t get hurt messing up his knee? What if New York would have kept him? The world may never know those answers. But, Jeremy Lin still has some time left to create a name for himself in the NBA. Lin will turn 29 in August, which for many, they perhaps are surprised he’s still playing in the NBA after being undrafted from Harvard.
Jeremy Lin is back in New York where it all began, which perhaps, where he needs to stay.
