There are some wonderful points made in this article concerning police qualifications among other things. Often times as public figures we forget that we are servants first. The police motto is to protect and serve but when they approach us it’s more in a demanding fashion and in a demanding tone. For some strange reason when a human being gets a little authority we often forget that we were elected, selected and expected to serve those who Intrusted them.

Truth. What happened to Alton Sterling and Philando Castile should have been a Wake Up call to our community. We are not free and we are viewed as (well, have always been viewed as) disposable income. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done, but the first is the rebuilding of our communities.

I am one that is very passionate about education, skill and experience so I can definitely agree with what you state about the police academy. I am interested in becoming knowledgable about the prerequisites of becoming a police officer in the U.S. Like I literally would take the courses to see what is learned. The simple fact of knowing that most police are shooting to kill is hurtful; and to see that it’s happening to mainly my people just outright disgust me. It’s 2016 and I feel like I’m living in 1955! I do not feel protected as a black woman and I definitely do not feel like our black men are safe out here. Great post Ty ! ?

Yes, this widespread imagery of black men/FATHERS in cold blood is psychologically damaging to ALL people of COLOR; and it is sending a dangerous message that we are indeed disposable to some. The Castile footage is heartbreaking man; and his woman received the same inhumane treatment. To ask a grievous WOMAN to get on her knees in front of her baby is insane.

I feel like colored people always have something to worry about.
Black people worrying if a cop’s going to shoot them. Hispanics worrying if they’re going to be deported. Muslims worrying if they won’t be seen as regular people. But what do white people have to worry about? Nothing. There’s Black Lives Matter, which was created by black people. And then there’s All lives matter, created by white people. All lives matter, but all lives don’t worry about getting shot by police officers. How are the police supposed to be protecting us if they’re killing us?
