If you boycott everyone who has worked with R Kelly on a song, the list of music that you will be listening to gets real short, and that may be okay for some but real talk I am not going to go that far. Not to mention boycotting R Kelly does nothing to the $$$ he gets from producing. The one point that we definitely agree on is that this is not an anomaly. See I am one of those little(now grown up girls) who an older man thought he could touch and truthfully I am less concerned about protecting little girls from R Kelly than protecting them from the everyday predators that stalk them at school, at the mall, at the family reunion(yeah I said it half of this mess starts with a family member).

So while I don’t believe that we should sweep R Kelly’s transgressions under the rug I not going to jump on the boycott train either. I haven’t bought his music in years, and I have never been and would probably not go to a concert. But if his music comes on the radio or plays on my Pandora station, I am not going to turn the station, I am going to bob my head sing a verse or two and keep it moving. I am going to continue to focus my efforts on helping all of those little black girls who are living in silence and pain at what someone has done to them. I am going to continue to help stop the everyday, non-superstar predators that continue to seek out and target our young girls.

So if you are on the boycott train I wish you well on your voyage. This is such a big problem in our community that we need to approach this from all angles. I won’t join you on the train, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be doing what I can to combat this problem
