Took me 7 years to acquire wealth of $560,000. In 51 years I could acquire wealth of much more than 7*560 =~ 4 million. And I am lazy and have never received a promotion. Most of my peers are far more successful than I am and make even more money.

Problem with Blacks is that your family structure is fucked. You are fighting an incredibly uphill battle and for sure you will LOSE. The difference between BLM and the Civil Right movement is basically the difference between a shitty fucked up single mother culture (good at burning cities, destroying businesses and accomplishing nothing) vs what a strong family oriented culture can do (end jim crow, pass the civil rights act, end lynchings). You are completely and totally fucked.

That puts us way behind other more privileged ‘races’ in this country; however, we aren’t really behind given the circumstances. Most of our parents and grandparents were around when we had no civil rights; therefore, they had to start from scratch with very little help. But, if you look their children are receiving education. It is these younger generations that will have to break the cycle, make the necessary changes and make the necessary sacrifices for future generations. With thinkers like the author of this article I think it can and will be done. It only takes a spark to put the fire to the flame!

Impatience is a key problem because it causes people to buy now, buy what they cannot afford and buy at the wrong time because they don’t want to wait. Keeping up with the Jones’ is a problem. A lack of unity in coming together to have our own businesses is another reason because the middle class working man formula was never supposed to afford us to be financially independent in the first place. A 5 year car loan for a car that will breakdown in 3 or a 30 year mortgage that has you pay for a house twice are also problems.

Finally, parents are not teaching their children about personal finances. Neither are thee schools.

I am a published author, family and relationship counselor, professional speaker and life coach. I must say I enjoyed your article and I find it to be accurate. Sadly, watch how many likes you receive as opposed to an article on rims, hair or a Kanye concert.

I would add a few more to your list. Materialism is a major factor. Our people spend. They don’t invest. They are consumers of what depreciates more than investors in their financial future. This leads me to the next one which is LIVING FOR TODAY and no insight nor planning for tomorrow. Our people want everything now and they are using material purchases to overcome their insecurities. An expensive car, in their minds, creates the picture that they are successful (even when they live in an apartment). Our people use material things to hide inadequacy or lack of real success.
