To James,

Your points are well made. But us blaming the white man (the guilty ones) and rehashing the institutionalized racism song will not help us fix our own communities. RE MY ARTICLE ON THISS SITE ENTITLED "HOW TO FIX THE BLACK COMMUNITY".

WE ARE THE SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEMS and I choose not to wait nor to rely on those institutions who caused the problems in the first place. Our solutions are economic, political, sociological etc. But the solutions must be launched from strong AA communities, strong homes with fathers present, economically sound homes and communities that police our own. Charity begins where?

It amazes me how many of you are still brainwashed to call yourselves BLACK. Black is the color of your car tires, not your skin. The white oppressive slave trader called you black and himself white to set up a contrast and to attach negative images and denotations to you based on a lie about color. Look up BLACK in the dictionary.

Research even shows that blacks are perceived by other groups as very different from African Americans. But we still keep calling ourselves what someone else defined us as, what we are not and what has a negative dictionary denotation in society. WAKE UP. LOOK AT THE REAL COLOR OF YOUR SKIN. YOU ARE NOT BLACK. You are an African American. The lie of calling us black and defining us by color (the wrong color) has been in place so long that our people accept it as truth - but it's not. Know your colors.

Native Americans do not allow others to call them red men. Asians do not accept being called yellow men. Hispanics do not answer to "what's up brown man". And Caucasians are not white, notebook paper is white. Wake up and see the plan where white racist supremacists plotted to redefine our people from Africa. STOP CALLING YOURSELF SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE NOT!

Mr. Anthony:

I think the point that this author is making is pretty clear. Black on black crime does not exclude State sanctioned killings of black people. In a sense State sanctioned killings of blacks is the new form of lynching blacks. In both situations, blacks end up dead without consequences to the killer especially when the killer represents or is law enforcement. That has to stop! When a man in the case of Eric Garner says he cannot inhale life sustaining air 11 times and the person choking him has the power to release that choke-hold and does not; he should be held accountable for his actions. ( The city of New York felt civically culpable because they paid the Garner family without going to trial over 5 million dollars to settle the law suit brought against that white man for his actions while representing the city as a policeman). Garner was unarmed and there were at least 4-5 people who were suppose to be acting in the role of police officers there to control Mr. Garner had that the choke-hold been momentarily released. Or when a man is running away from a person who is acting in the role of a police officer and is shot in the back and killed - it is incumbent upon blacks who call themselves citizens to behave like citizens and hold that person accountable.

Look, Mr. Anthony, I get what you are saying and I feel many others do also. Black communities are facing multiple problems on multiple fronts, such as high unemployment, black on black crime and poor leadership to name a few. However, to handle one problem and leave the others undone is in no way the answer. We ought to attack all our problems with great vigor. Just as lynching was attacked by blacks in the early part of the 20th century along with fighting for civil rights, it should give all of us hope that we can do more than one thing. However, turning a blind eye to State sanctioned killings of our youngsters, sons, daughters, husbands, wives and friends makes us look like “cowards of the worst kind who run away with their tails between their legs,”when confronted with this issue. I don’t know about you, but as for me, I feel committed and compelled to do what I can and when I can to help bring these kinds of killings to an end just as many of my brothers and sisters of years passed felt about bringing lynching to an end.

As an African American and former detective, I must correct a number of things you (the Author) have said - even though the truth is not popular. I am also a writer on this site, I have contacted Black Lives Matter and some of them have been very irresponsible. The truth is not coonery, it is the truth. Black Lives Matter consists of many angry people who do not know how to use the system to get results so they handle things in the wrong way. Sometimes breaching the peace is necessary, but with clear cut and unified objectives, not crazy unattainable ones.

Black on black crime is not just the fault of white people. Yes I know history but I also know we cannot continue to abdicate personal responsibility for our own actions. Sandra Bland, Eric Garner and Samuel Dubose all needed to understand this.

We have to address the crime in our own communities and stop scapegoating. Systematic racism is a major factor and so is slavery. But if those become excuses and our people stay in denial, we will never fix the problems. We have to fix the problems in our own communities and stop waiting for the white man, blaming the white man and calling anyone who speaks the truth coons. WAKE UP, it is a lot deeper than that.
