Great article William. Call me naïve or ignorant but I don’t believe that we should look at race as a factor in our decisions. Ignorance dies as we melt together. The fact that that chant existed anywhere is disgusting and deplorable. Group think can lead to some heinous activities and we have to teach our children to stand up for what is right. Only men/women of character can progress society.

I would like to add that I hope that Black parents will stop to spank their children. We live in a world that hate us so, we need as much love as possible to be strong. The Black youth needs to be taught about life skills: how to navigate through the corporate world, racists bosses, create businesses, etc.

The need to join an all-white fraternity is clearly based on the need for white validation. It’s futile because those white men you crossed with will NEVER see you as a brother, despite what they tell you or the image they give off. Don’t believe me? The true test is whether those same white boys you claimed a brotherhood with will accept or want your son marrying their daughters. I bet the answer is a resounding NO.

All the contributions you listed while a member of SAE were classic black man seeking white man approval. You fit the profile. All of that was result of seeking their validation by contributing most likely more than your fair share to advance their causes.

I doubt you learned anything from this latest episode. Once a negro has the need to be validated by white society, that usually don’t go away, no matter how many times those same people are harmed/disrespected/humiliated by whites.

Again, you were never their brother, and you never will be.

A message to the author: I was beaten by White kids since the age of 6. I had 0 preparation from my parents and it was a shock to me. I think the best way to prepare your son is to teach him about the positive accomplishments of Black people worldwide to give him a sense of pride. This will make him feel strong to face any situation later. You can read him positive stories of Blacks from books for children of his age group.

Thank you, dear brother, for your insight. It was not lunacy for you to join SAE because you found something and wanted to make a genuine difference. There is room for everyone: Omegas, Kappas, Alphas, Deltas, Sigmas, AKAs, Zetas…all of them. You are no more Black if you pledge one of them and certainly no less Black if you pledge something else. The failing here is not on YOU but on “those” who still propagate the ridiculous notion that ANY OF US had a say in what race we would be. That is the fundamental stupidity of racism and all of those who wave it as a flag–no one had a choice. Those who view their whiteness as a badge of superiority are just plain dumb. They could easily have been born Black or Asian or Hispanic. So, holding race against a person is a disgusting notion. But don’t get it twisted–“I ain’t mad” at the choice God made for me to make me a Black Queen. And there is NOTHING wrong about us getting into to those “other” areas within society. You know the ones: the groups they don’t expect us to be in; the places they say we don’t go. If they never have to encounter us, then they learn even less. To those who will counter, “they don’t want to learn” let me say this: I don’t care what they want to learn! I’ll be here/there/wherever you expect that you will not see me. And I will be sharp, witty, powerful AND Black–Enjoy the experience. And if you don’t, too bad. Still here/there/wherever. Like you said, many of the questions came from a place of genuine inquiry, not racist intent. Bottom line: some people in the world are just mean, ugly, and small–and not always White. They exist on the job, in the church…and in the frat. For those of us who would choose to stay in the game, answering the questions and trying to bring enlightenment, some days we will get reminded that our efforts appear to be in vain. But know, dear brother, that they are not. You made a difference to the SAE “brothers” who encountered you. Share truth!

There probably hasn’t been a THIRD black man in 14 years because most black men have sense enough not to join an all-white fraternity.
