It starts in the home, but if you can’t get the support and positive guidance there, then that’s when the community leaders should step up. But as the article points out, there is no support. This is why young athletes don’t go to Black colleges, which is one of the main reasons why these colleges are struggling.

The young people have no direction in these matters. They are groomed and controlled as soon as these organizations see their future potential (dollar signs). But we can’t continue to blame these institutions outside our community. The blame lays at our feet as a community. It’s up to us to support and direct our children’s future.

Until we start doing this, we’ll continue to hear stories like not knowing how to read, domestic abuse, going broke after a successful career, and all the other negative issues they face because we as a community, refuse to step up. But their is a solution.
