i'm confused, this is reality tv. i'm not understanding how you are discrediting this lady like this. before LHHATL there was ny. so these cast members knew what they were signing up for. you have shows like MAURY, SPRINGER,WILKOS depicting women in a bad fashion, but you are only speaking on one show. confused. everybody on this show is grown, can they take accountability for there own action. if Mona wasn't producing it some other producer would be. sad but this is our society. to stop it would be to stop watching it, but come on you no like me we will not

Wow, this I strongly agree, I'm a black woman and this piece just opened my eyes, because I'm to blame as well, I record this show at home and can't wait go get home to watch it and I love it. So now I need to look closely at myself for my actions. I will get counseling for why I want to watch this kind of violence, thank you for this article, and I hope other black women and women alike will know that we are worth so very much more than this crap we watch on television.

Well said!!!!!! It is a vicious circle of degradation. We ( society) consume it voraciously even if only to state the obvious and shake our finger at how horrible it is. We still watch. Green is the only color that matters. Mona Scott Young is no different than the blacks who owned slaves during the slave trade. It was the way to make wealth and if you can't beat them join them. Iyku are either the pimp or the ho. If we stop buying the product they will most definitely stop selling. The bus boycotts worked because we hit the pockets. Humanity cannot reason; cannot agree unless there is an impetus to do so. Mimi is a prime example of how money mattered more than her dignity. Being the good girl Stevie dumped for the stripper/prostitute didn't pay as much as actually being the stripper./prostitute. How do I know? .... I was watching .... When we stop watching they will turn it off. But we won't stop so they will keep dishing out poop and telling us it is sunshine.

I agree with what you wrote. However the thing to remember is the women and their behavior on this show is not reflective of all black women. Sure it perpetuates what society and some black men already think about black women but it's deeper than that. It goes back to slavery when black women were disregarded as nothing nobody trash you name it and they thought it. Which is still the mindset of society. You could be the most successful black woman in the world and you will still get looked at this way. Whose to say counseling wasn't offered behind close doors but they refused it. They did have Dr Jeff gardere on the show with Mimi Stevie and Joseline. It's up to the people to want the help. Lastly there is also another possibility. Maybe this is what these women simply want. It may not be for you or anyone else but it's what they chose to do with their life. Some people go to school others get an inheritance and stay at home. Love your commentary.

First of all we need to agree that the show is not a feel good do good themed flavored show. All of the people that appear on it seem to be quite self-centered and seeking 15 minutes of fame. If they really wanted help, there would be counselors on the show and even some demon casting individuals that would perform on site exorcisms in the name of Jesus'. However, it is what it is. Unorganized chaos involving our people who are more than willing to reveal things that should have been kept behind closed doors. As far as pimping is concerned, this practice has been going on for quite awhile and there is no end in sight as long as opportunity presents itself. There are no true friendships or relationships on the show as even Scrappy and his mother are dysfunctional and serve as an example of how a family can be negatively portrayed. Meanwhile we see the Jerry Springer aspect of the show as the cast can not even sit down and do an informal review of their performances without resorting to violence and profanity. I am guilty of watching this crap as well due to the lack of qualitative tv programming and no black executive control. All I can say is that it is rather disappointing for the role model aspect and for the next generation of our children who will grow up thinking that being dysfunctional and highly disrespectful to one another is normal among us humans. Pimping is now being shown from the pulpit to the streets and as long as we watch without saying anything, it will continue. Peace out, Papacool.

I so agree with your opinion. I watch the show and am astounded at the way these people especially the women are portrayed. I do also agree that if this is really the "true" life and behavior of these women, then the show would be much better if there were some attempt to help these women who obviously need counsel and direction. If these women "truly" live like this, then they really need help.

Two issues arise with your thoughts.
1. It's a reality show. It is not mona's job to be providing counselling on the show.
How would that ensure authenticity? Reality shows are just about the lives of the characters. So why would Mona be required to intervene in anyway.

2. Clearly even with all your distaste for the show. You watch it yourself ! And I assume from that long list of all the flaws you've seen on the show you've been watching it from season 1. Probably the New York version too..am I right? Because we all do.
So why do you do that if you are so offended by the scenes, the characters, the story lines.
You watch it yourself and then come on social sites and say how appalled and offended you are.. there's a slight disconnect between your thoughts and those actions..

Besides those two issues, I do agree with the disgusting image the characters display of black people. It's stupid. Most people, be they black or any other colour, don't behave like that anyway. You must however take the programme in therror context it's set in. They are a warped super rich community with nothing better to do than sleep around and curse their assess off. It's the life they've chosen. And nobody has to live with that except them.
